“It’s been a journey” Shroff told @NBCNews. “I’ve spent my entire life trying to eradicate cancer, primarily pancreatic cancer, but also liver cancers.”

A light in our HPB oncology community is gone, much too soon
She changed what is possible for patients with cholangiocarcinoma and even saw through a Young Investigator Award in Biliary Cancers
Thinking of her family and all who loved her. RIP 🖤💐

An unimaginable loss to our field. It is indeed so deeply inspiring that even in the face of her own sickness, she worked toward raising funds to support rare cancer research and that too for young investigators. Rest in peace 🙏🏽

Kudos to @EmoryDeptofMed resident @CShi321 for leading this comprehensive review on systemic therapies in gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine carcinomas in the European Journal of Cancer. GEP-NEC represents an incredibly heterogeneous and challenging disease to treat. Despite years of work, platinum chemotherapy regimens remain the mainstay of treatment (indeed a suboptimal standard of care), with select patients deriving benefit from targeted therapy and immune checkpoint inhibitors. Luckily there are newer agents (especially DLL3-targeting agents), that are currently in development and appear promising. @WinshipAtEmory @OncoThor @rohit_thum @Sarbaji85064063 @ChandrikhaC @helops79 🦓💊📈

Thanks for the shout out @JudsonKimmel1 ! Actually, Dr Bellizzi @IHC_guy did all the hard work on the GLP1R in NEN project. I just helped to carry the study across the finish line 😊
Replying to @OncoThor
Definitely an ongoing topic of interest among NEN pts. The @PoHienEar team article from last November was very helpful in understanding GLP expression variation among NEN types, and this article will help further in considering individual risk/reward. 👏🦓
Big thanks to @UGrewalMD & @OncoThor for leading this discussion! We still have a long way to go in terms of scientific knowledge. We are extremely grateful to have NET SPORE funding and amazing colleagues to help with this challenging project! 🙏
How does one counsel a patient with resected or still-active NET on the use of incretin mimetics such as GLP-1RA and mixed GLP1-RA/GIP1-RA (tirzepatide)?
Many such patients stand to derive substantial benefit from these drugs but there have been lingering concerns about long-term safety in terms of neuroendocrine neoplasms. While preclinical studies have shown stimulatory effect on growing NET cell lines (keep in mind, they may not accurately reflect NETs in humans), no convincing evidence from post-marketing studies has been seen.
I will freely admit that we do not have all the answers but thanks to @UGrewalMD for leading this project with @sonbol_bassam @HansHofland1 @IHC_guy @PoHienEar @CronaJoakim James Howe, Simron Singh, Jonathan Strosberg, Joseph Dillon and Jennifer Chan.
I hope you will find this useful and it will stimulate further discussion.
Disclaimer: I have no COIs regarding any of these meds.

Forever grateful to @IHC_guy for his mentorship on this and several other projects (crazy that I even know you and get to work with you). We hope that this will be a helpful guide for colleagues while dealing with this clinical challenge that I find to be incredibly hard to navigate. Thank you @NANETS1 for the nomination and co-authors @ChandrikhaC @PoHienEar @RaulSGonzalezMD @SethConcorsMD for your contribution to this work.

Finally out!!- A critical appraisal of literature and several practical insights from surgeon extraordinaire @SethConcorsMD and team on the role of primary tumor resection for patients with small bowel neuroendocrine tumors in the setting of metastatic disease @EndoCancer. @WinshipAtEmory @TheGutOncLab
erc.bioscientifica.com/view/…
On a personal note- I do think there is a role for PTR among patients with a symptomatic primary (caveat: symptoms can be very subtle or non-specific and therefore challenging to identify). The role of PTR remains less well-defined in asymptomatic primary tumors, especially among those with relatively indolent disease.

Big news from #ASCO2026: targeted therapies matched to tumor biology show promise in pancreatic cancer. Winship's Kevin Kalinsky, MD, MS, FASCO, explains why this is a major advance for precision medicine and patients.
We’re excited to recruit a Research Scientist to join our NET Team.

Excited to continue working in this direction and hopefully ensure wider access to germline testing for patients with neuroendocrine neoplasms.
At #ASCO2026, Winship GI medical oncologist @UGrewalMD shared promising research highlighting the potential value of universal germline genetic testing for patients with neuroendrocrine neoplasms, findings that could help inform future treatment guidelines and care.
