Too bad we don't have any anti-crime candidates :(

My place has 5 people and 3 bedrooms.
We鈥檙e doing fine.
Imagine being naive enough to want the government as your landlord 馃槅

US public housing produced disasters like Pruitt-Igoe (St. Louis, demolished 1972 after <20 years) and Cabrini-Green/Robert Taylor (Chicago): high-rises with rampant crime, vandalism, elevators broken, sewage floods, concentrated poverty. Rents capped at 25-30% of income starved maintenance funds. HUD inspections fail far more often than private units; NYCHA still battles mold, lead, rats, heat outages. Bureaucracy lacks market incentives. Private landlords must compete or lose tenants and revenue鈥攁ccountability private markets enforce better than government ever did.
San Francisco: People say it's unaffordable.
But that's not true for anyone with a full-time job.
Not far from downtown SF, within walking distance of BART, with a beautiful view, five people could comfortably share this place for $1k/month per person.
That's $12k/year per person. Working full time at minimum wage yields over $40k/year.
So if anyone tells you SF is not affordable, the truth is they feel entitled to have a place with no roommates, or that they don't want a full-time job.
Just about anyone can make it work if they're willing to compromise a bit.

Normal people in SF have homes (or they wouldn't be here), so that's not a core issue.
I agree she's bad on crime, but Wiener is even worse!
San Francisco: Connie Chan has many flaws, but she recognizes things that normal everyday working-class people want.
Normal people, most of all, don't want to be harmed. She recognizes how the things YIMBYs want, such as tearing down infrastructure WHILE adding population density, will harm most people, so she simply refuses to go along with them.
Not harming most people is a good way to get most people on your side.
Therefore, I predict she'll win handily in parts of San Francisco where YIMBYs are most intent on causing harm.
Connie Chan basically opposes all the same things that the tiny group of Republicans in San Francisco do.
She doesn't want new housing built. She doesn't want urban freeways removed to reconnect neighborhoods. She doesn't want anything done that might even temporarily inconvenience a suburban car commuter or an incumbent homeowner.
It's not a surprise she'd be leading with Republicans.
I haven't seen Garry Tan endorse a single GOP member. Don't know about those other guys, don't follow 'em.

Or, just wanting to keep towers in downtown, not next to our homes?
