The battle over Libya’s Intelligence Agency is rapidly becoming one of the biggest fault lines in western Libya.
In an exclusive interview with The @thegeopoldesk, Presidential Council member @Moussa_kouni says he was illegally overruled in the appointment of Abdel Majid Mlegta, raising fresh questions over the legality of the move and exposing widening fractures in Tripoli’s leadership.

Multiple sources indicate an ongoing issue involving the Sharara oil field and Akakus Oil Operations, within a complex context that includes actions by the Public Prosecutor and active investigations.
According to the same sources, there are growing signals of a potential oil shutdown, driven by financial disputes with local contractors working with Akakus, who are facing increasing pressure to recover their outstanding payments.
It is worth noting that the Akakus pipeline was targeted by two sabotage attacks within approximately ten months between 2025 and 2026. The most recent incident resulted in a fire that lasted around 40 hours, marking one of the largest oil-related incidents in the region.
Estimated losses reached approximately 2.58 million barrels of oil, equivalent to around $269 million in direct losses, due to production stoppages and reductions during the fire and until maintenance operations were completed.

For those who viewed the GNU as more consolidated than its predecessor, the GNA, the recent fault lines emerging within Misrata offer a sobering reassessment.

The proposal envisaged Khalifa Haftar and not Saddam Haftar becoming head of the Presidential Council, with key ministries, including defence and foreign affairs, allocated to the LNA.
However, the deal has already begun to lose momentum.
Influential stakeholders from Misurata have effectively vetoed Dabaiba, weakening the foundation of the arrangement.
For many regional and international actors backing a Dabaiba–Haftar deal, the logic was straightforward: Tripoli finally had a prime minister capable of enforcing decisions, unlike the more constrained tenure of Fayez al-Sarraj under the GNA.
That assumption is now being challenged. The firm rejection from Misuratan actors has forced many to rethink their position, even as some in the international community still believe a deal could happen.
The more likely reality, however, is that Libya is entering a familiar phase once again, a renewed cycle of contested legitimacy rather than a stable political settlement.

A lot of websites have plagiarised the images, but their choice to credit a Ukrainian site with it fits perfectly within a broader pattern in the Libyan media sphere of trying so hard to drag the Russian/Ukrainian conflict into this.

Though the brigade is the main LAAF presence in the region there are some other units like the 3rd battalion of the 15th Mecha infantry brigade (prev. 128th reinforced brigade) that has 3 separate "companies located in Tahala, Awainat and Essien. All are majority Tuareg.
