Downloading and playing some Mobile games for the first time in years has really driven home the collapse of modern indie games into the exact same dopamine sludge that mobile games started optimized for first. What the fuck is this medium now.

It used to be the thing to not smile in photos, and then to smile in photos, and now to imagine photos that never existed. Memories aren't as important as current experiences when people are trained to have shorter attention spans or value digital hierarchies.

The entire insanity of our time can be summed up as: we have a technology (the state apparatus) that can be applied to fix our large-scale problems, and we are told over and over that it can't be by the very people who control that technology and use it to enrich themselves.

Someone asked me what I thought of VR games in general in 2025 on our discord. I spent too much time writing this so figured I'd share it elsewhere. This is written off the top of my head so apologies for overbroad generalizations. Coffee-shop tier banter.

Replying to @firtoz @unity
yeah 100%. I actually think Unity was going in a good direction when they first announced DOTS in 2018, but somehow management direction changed completely and 7 years later the engine is worse than it has even been imo xitter.cf/gdechichi/status/19361…
I wasn't on the engine team, but even if I was it wouldn't have made a difference - Unity is a big company with other priorities. most programmers on the engine team are much better than I am, they could easily write this, but if the company has other priorities there isn't much they can do about it

if you're ever sad alone silently, consider this: - i hold a copyright on being like that - you're encroaching on my intellectual property - i will send you a cease & desist - i will take you to court so please make yourself legally distinct by talking to someone about it

Nowhere in any of this are people offered any democratic alternative. Nor can the parties act differently: their function is to represent increasingly inflexible class interests. Culture wars act to obfuscate who benefits from what and set working people against each other.

Yes that video is real. Yes you just watched Palestinians be burned alive in a hospital. Yes one man was still in his hospital bed. Yes you can still speak up about this. Yes you can change your mind. Yes you can start now. Yes we need you to start screaming alongside us.

i can be an amazing artist or i can be an amazing businessperson but i can't be both not alone there's a spirit-channeling to creativity that worrying about economics and administration contaminates and disrupts i'll always choose the art

The West and its leaders have failed every moral test imaginable, and they honestly think it won't matter. But, it will. It always does.

The thing about unity is that it's just such a repetition of the baby 20 year old engineer feeling that your problems will go away if you just start another project, instead of knowing that actually all your problems are inside of you and you might as well just fix what you got.

I've rewritten the signed distance field generator by @catlikecoding to be 40x to 75x faster by using Unity Burst. It's available here (licensed partly MIT and partly MPL 2.0): gist.github.com/runevision/a…
