Honey Buzzard, ad female-New Forest-Summer 2026, totally unbarred which isn't a common morph among females on Forest, ringed LH & advised this bird is 12 years of age & so hoped to have played a big part in the recruitment of new birds into the system @HOSbirding

Hobby-Juvenile-New Forest-Summer 2026, 1 of 3 chicks that successfully fledged from this particular nest with other multiple nests also successful this summer, it seems that this species is trying to make a comeback on the New Forest.

Some excitement yesterday evening when news of its presence belatedly emerged. A few of Hampshire’s keenest went to check it out and we managed a few brief flight views. I went back for some photos this am.

Yesterday, I woke to a message from @MarkFra64259515 who had found this cracking adult White-winged Black Tern off Hill Head. It frequented the offshore feeding frenzy with a Black Tern for most of the morning at least.

Honey Buzzard-adult male-white morph-New Forest Monday 11/05/26 this individual does tend to arrive earlier than most Honey’s on Forest, nice to get an early bird to settle the nerves for the season ahead, + an adult White-tailed Eagle.

American Golden Plover, Hook-with-Warsash LNR, Hampshire (01/04/26).
We have been lucky with species in Hampshire for the last two years - I have seen one in both April 2025 & 2026. Although this years bird is more distant & the photo below is heavily cropped. My 6th in Hants.

Lovely to catch up with @SBO_Jason at Farlington Marshes, where we had a Norwegian colour-ringed Rock Pipit ‘X9Z’.
Ringed at More og Romsdal, Norway in August 2020 and travelled 1434 km to overwinter at Farlington. Recorded at Farlington each winter since.
