A stream of White-winged Black Tern flew over our heads a few hours after arriving in Lesvos. This was the moment when I realised I was birding on a magical island

Quick visit to Freiston Shore earlier this week did not disappoint as the Wryneck was extremely confiding, clearly this individual didn't get the memo...

Had a lovely few hours with the long-staying Long-tailed Shrike in Gloucestershire last week, it put on one hell of a show

Buff-breasted Sandpiper on Dale Airfield this evening. Quite flighty if the cows did not keep their distance.
It was my second attempt as I did not want to dip this species on two different airfields

More larking about is on the way! We've already got another 3 episodes in the bag, and a further 3 will be filmed in the autumn. As per the picture Sam does a lot of pointing and I do a lot of soaking it in.

Great news! @BBCFOUR4 will be marking Bill Oddie's unique wildlife TV career on the evening of Sunday 16th August: starting at 7pm with The Best of Bill Oddie Goes Wild, followed by Birding with Bill Oddie: Bill’s Beginnings, and finally Bill Oddie’s Top Ten Birds. Please RT!
Really enjoyed my first spring in Norfolk, particularly getting to know local spots for migrants, such as this Wheatear.
My spring expectations were reserved, but highlights within 5km included Ross’s Gull, Great Reed Warbler, Great Grey Shrike, Hoopoe, BW Stilt and Wood Warbler
When I started birding, I always remembered the tale of “Hoopoe only turn up in the Vicar’s garden”. So I followed up on the vague Hoopoe report at Sedgeford by starting at the church. Happy it paid off!
The distant blob of a Ross’s Gull was not on my bingo card this spring!
Thanks @lonsdalebirding for the re-find
Pink-footed Goose ‘NW-7G’ with a GPS neckband sighted at Honey Hills, Norfolk, is wintering in the UK for the first time. This individual was ringed in the Netherlands and typically wintered in northern Belgium. Likely part of the current Tundra Bean and Whitefront influx
