Don’t usually post, so might be just shouting into the void, but could do with some feedback so here goes. Will be a thread: observation on Wednesday, 1st lesson trig with y9. Thinking of going rogue and ditching sohcahtoa. Starter on board, enlargements. 1/6

Finding sides of triangles. Opposite = h x sin(theta), adj = h x cos(theta). All you’re doing is scaling up the triangle. Use it to find missing sides given h & theta. Extension: if I tell you opp and the angle, can you find the hypotenuse? 5/6

Next lesson: tan(theta). Tan is the gradient of the radius. Link to y =mx, opp=adj x tan(theta). End! 6/6

I had something similar to this happen in class yesterday, catching me off-guard, and I’ve recreated the SHIFT EXE problem pointed out by @Quadratica87928 about the new @Casio classwix fx991cw you should be aware of! @GuideCalculator

Hi @Ridermeister & @Whitehughes I’d value your opinion. We’re restarting fm a-level this year. Previously did D1 & D2. We’re thinking D1 & S1 for breadth, and teacher has a masters in stats. But, if d2 is easier…

Does anyone have a go to source for practice for your very weakest students? I'm talking those who still count on with fingers, not secure on their TTs etc

Collected my daughter from school yesterday. "What have you done today at school, pudding?" "Can't remember" Later, with mum, she tells her that she's been learning about tally charts.

Here’s a collection of Mathsy jokes and puns to share, enjoy and cringe to. Let’s face it, as we approach the holiday season, no classroom, dinner table or party will fail to be brightened up by a maths pun or two. bit.ly/3VWO42E

This is a lovely idea. A free website which (due to sponsorship) gives a day's water to someone in a developing country for every 10 questions students get correct. Fluency practice with real purpose 😍 well-good.org/wp/
