Architect and mother on pause by longcovid. Hopeful that research, collaborations and lobbying will bring us with LC and/or ME back to a better life

Potassium citrate eleminated restless leg syndrome in 68 people. It was carried out after a chance observation in one patient. That patient was taking potassium citrate to prevent kidney stones, and the authors noticed it relieved the patient’s RLS. 68 people with RLS were given potassium citrate 1080mg/day, which delivers about 400 mg of potassium. By day 45, none had RLS, according to a VAS rating, which measures symptom severity on a visual scale.

Doctors should be prescribing therapeutic ultrasound for Long COVID as routinely as medication. Not a device to take home, but extended, supervised sessions—similar to how you’d go to physical therapy for a muscle injury. - The treatment is safe. - The machines are already available and straightforward to learn, even if they’re relatively expensive. - The underlying logic holds up, including for effects we can’t yet fully observe. - Real success stories. In the small number of Long COVID cases I’ve seen so far (including my own), the improvements have been unusually rapid. - There’s a longer track record of success with Lyme. Let’s hope this becomes far more accessible. Start sharing the data with your doctors and advocating for evidence-based protocols.

Report from my n1-trial with low dose Rapamycin: after 13 weeks my time up in my wheelchair doing light activity have risen from 4h a day to 5h and a half - not too bad.

Thanks @liamsLCjourney for your work covering GLP-1-drugs for LC/ME! Next week I will start with microdosing Tirzepatide. It’s like roulette- but what can we do? Fingers crossed!
Replying to @liamsLCjourney
Subtyping: POTS/dysautonomia patients fared notably worse than average, while most other clusters tracked close to the overall improvement/worsening rate. Why? GLP-1s may exacerbate autonomic symptoms - a pattern echoed throughout the anecdotes we collected.

Karolinska Institutet, 60 people with COVID-induced POTS. Tailored exercise did not improve quality of life over standard care and actually reduced upright time and daily steps. Nearly all had post-exertional malaise at baseline. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Our poster from the ISLC-PAIS conference: PEM is characteristic of and unique to ME, and is equivalent to PENE as defined by the ICC. Required to be prolonged, disproportionate, systemic, may be delayed, can cause lasting functional decline 🧵 positivenutrition.ie/wp-cont…

The Guardian is calling for 18-29 yr olds who’ve never had a relationship. Reasons they suggest ofc don’t mention being housebound/bedbound by chronic illness. Would be great if young pw #MECFS respond. They normally publish 1-2paras from each person. theguardian.com/lifeandstyle…

#covid #postcovid #ME #skandal #svpol
Jubileum!

“Can I do it?” is a terrible measure of disability. Yes, I can do it. Can I do it repeatedly? Can I do it safely? Can I do it without support? Can I do anything afterwards? Can I do it tomorrow too? What does doing it COST? These tell me a lot more about my capability.

Rest in power, Arnaud. 🕯🕊💙

Post exertional malaise (PEM) is the hallmark symptom of #MECFS It’s not fatigue following activity. It is a dramatic deterioration and worsening of symptoms. Short video explainer - triggers, symptoms, and management. Repost for the last day of #MEAwarenessMonth

In my opinion, the potential for repeated PEM episodes to trigger a longlived or permanent decline in baseline health should be included in the definition of PEM. Then re-examine the common assertion that PEM occurs in many illnesses on that basis.

Cool teknik!
Could a new approach help people with #LongCOVID? Prof @PutrinoLab shared early findings on microtesla magnetic therapy. The small trial found improvements in some cognitive measures, with 100% adherence and no reported adverse events. A larger trial is now planned. #ISLCPAIS

I’m astonished, and worried, by the number of requests I’ve received between end of august and early September from completely bed bounded young adults (16-28 yro) from italy and abroad. That is sincerely concerned. Some of them already have a doctor diagnosis of #longcovid or #mecfs , others have only excluded other diseases and they think (and I think have) they have them

Another angle on the truly insane research funding neglect of ME/CFS - looking at clinical trials 💊 How do we get the pipeline of clinical trials truly flowing, in a way that 1) gets the most accurate results, and 2) allows us to maximise learnings on the underlying biology?
