This is for anyone who cares about the climate and is thinking about voting for Jill Stein or RFK Jr. or sitting this election out.
I get your frustration, but I'm asking you: please don't.
Here's why voting for Harris is the best move 🧵

🚨 BREAKING 🚨 - Pres Trump’s campaign plans would lead to a 𝟑𝟑 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐮𝐭 ✂️ by driving the #SocialSecurity to 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒚 by 𝟐𝟎𝟑𝟏.

The Trump plans will drain $𝟐.𝟑 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 from the trust funds by ending taxation of benefits, eliminating taxes on tips and overtime, deporting immigrants, who currently pay payroll taxes, an increasing cost-of-living, and thus COLAs through higher tariffs.

Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing at a pace 100X faster than previous natural increases. Our planet is warming 10X faster than it has in 65 million years. CO2 has not been consistently above what it is right now in ~14 million years. That's today's Berardelli Bonus.

The climate movement needs to understand this. Right now, it does not.

Another case of manufactured austerity: Democrat Governor and Democrat legislature in Connecticut are running annual $700 million budget surpluses, plan to cut taxes this year. Meanwhile @UConn is planning for devastating budget cuts to cover $70 million annual shortfall.
As the U. of Connecticut joins a growing list of public flagships across the country struggling with financial cuts, faculty say a proposed 15-percent budget reduction would likely threaten the existence of graduate programs across the university. chroni.cl/3vVOxKH

Based on former president Donald Trump’s stump speeches and the draft policy documents his backers are currently writing, Americans can expect a major assault on climate science and policies should he be re-elected president. @scottpwaldman for @politico: politi.co/49200X4

The scale of climate change can be a bit mind-boggling at times.
For example, the Greenland ice sheet has lost over 6 trillion metric tons of ice since 1970 – or more than 700 tonnes lost per person for every person on the planet today:

What is this @nytimes Daily?? Today's episode is everything that makes me frustrated w/state of journalism: pure vibes based reporting that's contrary to actual data and overtly politicized framing as "Biden's electric car problem." Sloppy and uninformative. Do better. Thanks.
NYTimes podcast pushing the bad vibes EV narrative, and yet 14 mins in they admit EV sales continues to grow, and we will pass $1 million sales this year for the first time. And EV leases WAY up to capture the tax credit.

Just noting that a key US senator--and veteran climate cleader @SenJeffMerkley--is calling on the Biden administration to shut down the expansion of gas exports.
This is an important moment in this fight
Exporting fossil gas cannot be part of U.S. climate policy. @billmckibben reports on new research that LNG exports are worse for the climate than coal—projects like CP2 are disastrous. The world needs to agree to phase out all fossil fuels at COP28.

Because Senator Feinstein was absent, the Senate overturned a Biden rule that would cut pollution from heavy duty trucks and causes harm to people’s lungs. We are putting decorum over democracy and our values. It’s time for Senator Feinstein to step down gracefully.
By a vote of 50-49, the #Senate passed S.J.Res.11, Fischer Trucking Emissions CRA.
Senator Manchin joined Republicans and voted in favor.
Senator Feinstein did not vote.
