Yes, but promoters of land value taxes should be skeptical of localism. A local LVT paired with extensive local land use power is likely to lead to stricter zoning, as the revenue gain from allowing building declines (but there is an increase in service users)
I’ve paid my home off, too, but I pay property taxes because it is a relatively efficient way for local governments to raise revenue (reforming local real property taxes to become land value taxes would be better).

LVTs lead to more building within the zoning envelope, so if paired with zoning preemption they cause, as theory suggest, an increase in building.

And then, on the day of judgement, the tree will speak and say "O IRS agent, there's a salaried W-2 worker hiding behind me"
The “don’t tax you, don’t tax me, tax the man behind the tree” moment

i have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach that eventually the boomer property tax revolt will foment a reverse-polarity version in young people ("well then why should i keep paying Social Security taxes?") and the entire concept of cooperative public goods disintegrates

During the heyday of American municipal socialism (~1908-16), which coincided w Progressive good government reformism, socialist mayors campaigned on promises to improve public services by cleaning up government corruption. Hoan created a whole “Bureau of Economy and Efficiency”:
continuing to scream from the rooftop that reforming public union shenanigans is key to running progressive cities (ie: true progressivism maximizes services and benefits for all not a select group of in workers and union leadership)

I am very happy about this, mostly on smell/mess grounds....
Extremely good news. The horses shit everywhere, the smell is awful, they slow down traffic, the animals are almost certainly miserable, and it's more dangerous than people realize. And it's not even a good tourist thing! The rides suck, tourists are just rubes! Ban 'em.

New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and City Council Speaker Julie Menin have reached a deal to abolish NYC's horse carriage industry — a critical breakthrough in a decadeslong, politically fraught effort to ban the tourist attraction. politico.com/news/2026/10/13…
