We have a problem and ākicking the can down the roadā with another task force does nothing to solve it. Funding already exists for screening, the bill only asked that screeners meet specific criteria.
.@GovEvers vetoes Senate Bill 454, which would overhaul how schools respond to "at-risk" readers by increasing testing for young students and require educators to create a personalized reading plans. Democrats opposed the bill, in part, because it did not provide new funding.

An important study. Most of my older tutoring students come to me with teachers' concerns about "comprehension." But 99% of the time further testing reveals poor phonemic decoding. No one has ever mentioned that to the child or parent. That's where we start remediation.
So many reasons to check out this new article on children's reading trajectories. A few: 1. Very good overview of the reading research with lots of citations at the beginning. 2. Fascinating study relevant to the current "debate" 3. Not behind a paywall. rdcu.be/b10YR
