An Ode to Roge He was a man of few words, He let his smile speak for him. His jokes enlightened hearts, He was always kind; one of a kind, A big brother to many of us, A liberator, a soldier, an intellectual. He was discreet, went through the struggles of disease like Imfura, Never showed weakness, instead seemed happier than most, His health was poor, yet his character strong, His life was short, yet fully lived. A man with a big heart, a pure Soul, A great storyteller, with a measured but vibrant sense of humor, All who went to him were filled with joy, A positive man, a gentleman, a good man! You were a blessing to us, Roge, You showed us how to live, taught us how to love, What a proud Rwandan you were, what a decent human, A man who made Rwandan history, yet remained humble and calm. Rogers’ passing was untimely, we still had stories to share, We’ll try to walk in his footsteps, stand on the shoulders of a giant, He was a star on earth, he now shines in the sky, Illuminating the path of us left behind. But Roge Kayihura lives on, for as long as we are here, we will honor his life, We will remember him, as though he was still among us, He is one of us, we celebrate his life, that of a wise man, an elder, A pillar of society, a library that has burned to the ground. We are grateful for your time big brother, we are thankful for your life, We cherish every moment we shared, we appreciated your presence in our midst. Godspeed now Roge, go with God.
