It appears former Vice President Atiku Abubakar now wakes up everyday and just look for something to say to make headline. And it doesn't matter whether he speaks to facts and reality as long as he can make the news. His latest offering is that he wants to open borders that are not closed. How do you open what is not closed?

A little clarification is needed here. Zacch Adedeji’s nomination to the APC Presidential Campaign Council as Deputy Director of Fundraising does not mean taxpayers’ money will be used to fund the campaign. Fundraising and tax collection are two different things.
Zacch has been involved in fundraising and financial management within the APC long before he became Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service. So, this is not something he suddenly started because of his current position.
The figures also speak for themselves. NRS tax collection reached ₦28.3 trillion in 2025, above its ₦25.2 trillion target. In the first half of 2026, it collected about ₦21.6 trillion, showing strong growth in revenue collection.
So, where is the evidence that tax money is being diverted? Asking questions is fine, but jumping to conclusions without facts is not.
Some of the claims being pushed are simply mischievous and, unfortunately, many people are accepting them without checking the facts.
Let us understand the difference between raising money for a political campaign and collecting taxes for government. They are not the same thing. Facts should always come before outrage.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with global investors in Paris, France, emphasising transparency and fiscal discipline, and explaining the rationale for the swift implementation of bold reforms.
At the meeting, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, highlighted Nigeria's strong GDP growth in dollar terms in 2025.
He said Nigeria recorded 11.2% GDP growth in dollar terms last year, a record that reinforced the country's ambition to achieve a $1 trillion economy in 2030.
Oyedele emphasised the government's near-term priorities of translating reforms into results for the Nigerian people. He also pledged to publish quarterly financial data.
The Director General of the Debt Management Office, Mrs Patience Oniha, assured investors of the government’s responsible approach to debt financing and its focus on sustainable debt management.
The investors were from Citibank and France's Amundi, led by Valerie Baudson. There were also BlueCrest, the Britain- and South Africa-based Ninety One, Kirkoswald Capital, Principal Finisterre, US groups Prudential Global Investment Management (PGIM) and Mesarete Capital.
President Tinubu, who left Nigeria on Sunday for a three-nation trip, said the economic reform program of his administration includes measures to remove economic distortions and stabilise macroeconomic indicators, laying the foundation for sustained inclusive growth.
He said his government is committed to deepening reforms, enhancing transparency across the oil value chain, and implementing a multi-pronged security strategy, including police decentralisation and disrupting terrorist financing.
"The focus remains on policy stability and diligent execution to ensure these strategic shifts translate into concrete benefits for all Nigerians", President Tinubu said.
Some of the investors who spoke at the meeting commended the government's transformative reforms and expressed optimism about the Nigerian economy.
One of the investors asked President Tinubu about his post-2027 agenda. He promised to strengthen fiscal discipline and transparency, and to deliver policy consistency.

Since President Tinubu's attendance at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and his state visit to China last year, practical cooperation between our two countries across various fields has yielded fruitful outcomes, effectively supporting Nigeria's socioeconomic development and the improvement of people's livelihoods.
As a comprehensive strategic partner of Nigeria, China firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people to a development path that fits Nigeria’s national realities. We oppose any country’s interference in other countries’ internal affairs under the pretext of religion and human rights. We oppose the wanton threat of sanction and use of force.

So a Governor can demolish his own State House of Assembly, present the state budget to just 4 lawmakers, disobey Supreme Court ruling on Local Government election and nobody calls him lawless.
But Tinubu, for declaring a state of emergency to restore order, is suddenly the villain, abiii?

JICA’s JPY15 Billion Support: Advancing Nigeria’s Food Security
I had the honor of welcoming Mr. Takao Shimokawa, Director General of the Economic Development Department at JICA @jica_direct_en , to strengthen our longstanding partnership in agricultural development. I sincerely appreciate JICA’s JPY15 billion emergency food security support under the National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro-Pocket (NAGS-AP), which will enhance smallholder farmers’ resilience, improve farm input delivery, and boost private sector involvement.
Additionally, the JPY587 million Rice Seeds Production System Grant Aid Project at NCRI, Badeggi, will play a critical role in developing high-yield, disease-resistant rice varieties, further strengthening national food production. Through initiatives like the Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment and Promotion (SHEP) project and digital innovations, we are equipping farmers with the knowledge and tools needed to increase productivity and profitability.
I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for his steadfast commitment to agricultural development. His leadership continues to drive meaningful partnerships that are shaping the future of food security in Nigeria.

The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to the unfounded allegations made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who claims to be the subject of an EFCC investigation regarding unsubstantiated financial dealings involving Lagos State.
These claims, circulated through his media office, are false and reflect a troubling pattern of relying on social media gossip over substance. It is disheartening that a politician of Atiku's stature would lend credibility to baseless social media speculation to remain politically relevant.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains focused on addressing critical national challenges and advancing his administration's agenda for Nigeria's growth and stability. The President has neither the time nor the inclination to engage in petty political distractions.
Atiku's allegations are infantile and a transparent ploy to deflect from his political setbacks. His repeated attempts to drag the Presidency and now the Lagos State Government into fabricated controversies reveal a desperate bid for attention amid his fading attempt to cobble a coalition.
Since his defeat in the 2023 presidential election, the former Vice President has failed to rise to the dignified role of an elder statesman. Rather than contributing constructively to the national discourse, he has chosen the path of divisive rhetoric and unfounded accusations.
We urge Atiku Abubakar to redirect his energy toward initiatives that foster unity, economic progress, and democratic stability—qualities Nigeria urgently needs.
Lastly, the former Vice President should know that the EFCC, as an independent institution, operates within its statutory mandate without external influence. Any insinuation otherwise is a disservice to the agency's professionalism and the rule of law.
The Presidency remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the pursuit of national development—priorities that demand our undivided attention.
