Ever wonder how heterochromatin causes transcriptional gene silencing and is epigenetically inherited?
Excited to share our new story showing that histone deacetylation, a conserved feature of heterochromatin domains from yeast to mammals, limits access to SWI/SNF chromatin remodelers to prevent unraveling of nucleosomes, which enforces gene silencing and maintains high H3K9me3 density required for epigenetic inheritance

New paper alert! What controls where and how a cell builds a kinetochore? Turns out you don’t complex regulation or even DNA. Simply bringing together a single protein at a high local concentration is sufficient to trigger robust kinetochore formation.
