In this week’s edition of the Weekly Observer (@observerug), I share my reflections on a landmark development in International Environment & Climate Change Law—the historic Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) (@CIJ_ICJ) on the Obligations of States in respect to Climate Change.
Condensing a 140-page opinion into 500 words proved to be such a Herculean undertaking—and I must confess, I could not do it justice. Yet, the weight and wisdom of the Court pervade, especially in paragraph 456, which, in my view, distills the essence of the Opinion:
“The questions posed by the General Assembly… concern an existential problem of planetary proportions… International law… has an important but ultimately limited role in resolving this problem… Above all, a lasting and satisfactory solution requires human will and wisdom… to change our habits, comforts and current way of life in order to secure a future for ourselves and those who are yet to come.”
This Opinion is more than a legal milestone—it is a clarion call. The science is clear @IPCC_CH. The law is now clear. Our collective action ought to be clear too!🍀🌍⚖️

I had the privilege of delivering the curtain-raising presentation at the recently concluded Climate Action Financing & Advocacy Conference (CAFA), held under the theme, “Empowering Uganda’s Climate Champions: Financing, Advocacy & Sustainable Action.”
My presentation, titled “The State of Climate Action: Where We Stand & Where We Go Next,” offered a comprehensive overview of Uganda’s evolving climate landscape. Key highlights included:
☘️ Introduction to Uganda’s Climate Challenges
☘️ Uganda’s Climate Profile
☘️ The Current State of Climate Action
☘️ Key Achievements and Gaps
☘️ The Climate Financing Landscape
☘️ Opportunities for Scaled Impact
☘️ Strategic Recommendations & the Way Forward
I emphasized that climate action is no longer about pledges—it is about agency. We must move from policy to practice, from rhetoric to resilience, and from words to real-world wins for people and planet.

I had the privilege of taking part in the month-long Masterclass in International Carbon Markets convened by the Public and Third Sector Academy for Sustainable Finance (P3S Academy) at the University of Oxford.
This intensive and enriching programme brought together a global cohort of sustainability professionals, climate negotiators, policymakers, and practitioners.
Together, we explored the complexities and opportunities within international carbon markets—from Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and the voluntary carbon market, to market integrity, financing mechanisms, and just transition principles.
As an ardent Energy, Environment and Sustainability professional, this learning experience has further deepened my appreciation of how carbon finance can be harnessed not just to reduce emissions, but to unlock equitable climate action across the Global South.
A heartfelt thank you to the very resourceful faculty at Oxford and the team at P3S Academy for curating such a timely and practical learning journey. This experience has reignited my resolve to contribute to shaping transparent, credible, and impactful carbon market mechanisms—especially for countries like Uganda and indeed across Africa, where climate ambition must be matched with streamlined access to climate finance.🍀🌍✊🏽

Over the weekend, I had the privilege of returning to the Young Leaders Forum (YLF), convened by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Uganda (@fesuganda).
This time round, I joined a coruscating youth panel to share my thoughts and experiences on youth-led energy and climate justice efforts. I spoke about the kind of change I’m advocating for—climate justice and a just energy transition that not only accelerates our shift to renewable energy, but also ensures that youth, women, and marginalized communities are meaningfully involved and benefit from it.
I emphasized the pressing need for meaningful youth involvement in shaping policy and investment landscapes that respond to the urgency of the climate crisis and the energy poverty scourge, while advancing social equity.
I am deeply grateful to the incredible team at FES for the opportunity and for the critical work you continue to do.
I look forward to deepening our collaboration to scale youth-led climate action in Uganda and indeed across the continent. [Freedom–Justice–Solidarity]🍀🌍✊🏽
