The ocean absorbs 90% of excess heat from emissions and ~25% of CO2. At Nairobi Convention COP12 today, PACJA co-hosted a side event with WWF and SWIOTUNA on the ocean-climate nexus for Africa. A thread. 🧵
Ocean belongs in Africa's climate agenda, not beside it. At Nairobi Convention COP12 (7 Oct), PACJA's Charles Mwangi joins @WWF & @swiotuna to build shared CSO priorities on ocean-climate linkages ahead of COP31 & COP32. #ClimateJustice #NairobiConventionCOP12 #OceanClimateNexus

More than 3/4 of NDCs reviewed at the UNFCCC Ocean Dialogue in Bonn now include an ocean-based measure. But high-impact mitigation — green shipping, fossil fuel phase-out, ocean renewables — is only ~12% of those commitments.

The ask heading into COP31 and COP32: finance that reaches frontline coastal communities directly, African science capacity built to match the problem, and ocean governance treated as a justice question. #PACJA #ClimateJustice #NairobiConventionCOP12 #OceanClimateNexus

She delivered the vote of thanks, underscoring the weight of the two days' discussions. A model law is only as strong as the parliaments willing to adopt it. The work now moves from Nairobi's drafting table into 54 national legislatures. #PACJA #PanAfricanParliament #ACLI

Hon. Outata Euphrème (PAP, Committee on Agriculture, Rural Economy, Natural Resources and Environment) placed the responsibility on African nations: popularise and domesticate the law nationally, and don't leave that domestication to chance.

In Emali, the project is responding to a real challenge: low income households need equitable access to safe water and communities need a voice in governance. @PACJA1 @emalidca_ #MajiNaTaka
