NIH grant training video: “The review process can be discussed with no one. This includes your lab members, colleagues…”Me trying to figure out if everyone else is fair game since they just defined "no one" as a specific list: 👁️👄👁️

New paper!
How do hundreds of GPCRs maintain the same activation mechanism while evolving to recognize completely different signaling partners?
We developed an evolutionary framework that separates residues responsible for shared GPCR functions from those driving specialization
A ligand-binding sensor domain got a tiny insertion from cytochrome c, which contained a heme-binding motif, and now it is a nitric oxide sensor. As simple as that: biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
A really cool platform for annotating new bacterial genomes and metagenomes. Intuitive, biologist-friendly interface and a powerful gene neighborhood tool. So, if you have a new (meta)genome - don't go anywhere else. It's free (I don't know why -)) - seqhub.org
What are the odds? Two PNAS acceptances, 28 minutes apart. Maybe I should start buying lottery tickets?
We keep learning new things about bacterial flagella:

ChatGPT says:
The two spellings Zhulin and Jouline are both transliterations of the same original Russian surname Жулин — but they follow different conventions: Zhulin - Anglo-style transliteration, JoulineFrench-style transliteration. Are we clear now :-)?

Cache-containing chemoreceptors by AlphaFold. One is sober, another is drunk as a skunk. Managed to cross the membrane twice. "How many ligands did you have, Dude?"

Our heartfelt thanks to our reviewers, authors, readers, and followers. In 2024, we achieved over 1.075 million full reads and published 227 articles. This incredible milestone wouldn’t have been possible without your continued support.

Not only a beautiful image and a beautiful structure, but also an example of a tour de force that can be achieved when two talented assistant professors join forces!
Our ApoB paper is out in print today in @Nature and since we didn't get the cover I can share our (@CKeithCassidy ) beautiful artwork from molgraphics.com/ that wasn't selected 😆
