I'm fascinated by the rise of frictionmaxxing as a response to a frictionless life. We engineer away inconvenience, only to discover that some of the friction we removed was part of what made life feel alive in the first place
Someone could probably write a book (if they haven’t already) about the cycle of technology productizing the removal of friction in the name of convenience only for us to discover that the friction was a load-bearing part of the social compact.

among the more hyperbolic headlines i've seen in this research -- is it truly "devastating" for industry...that they can't directly pump toxic waste into groundwater sources that travel into surface water news.bloomberglaw.com/enviro…

"As the post-'08 Left inches closer to a long-dreamed-of accession to state power, the shadow of state repression, even state terror, looms. Yet these parallel developments feel somehow distant from one another, rarely mentioned in the same conversations." versobooks.com/blogs/news/be…

Everything to live a dignified life is more expensive now because human needs now have to compete with hyperscale compute demands.
This is what crowd out looks like.

I decided to record myself doing a reading of an article by the Bundist leader Victor Alter entitled "Jewish Blood", published September 27th 1929. Palestine will be free.

Please don’t buy our books on Amazon. If you can’t afford to buy them from a real bookstore or from us directly, pirate them from Anna’s Archive like God intended.

Ten largest one-off donations to Bo French this cycle. Does not include his mother, Marcia French, who previously was his largest individual donor.

This is the doom I predicted a few days ago, coming for Photoshop. A clean-room open-source reimplementation. No prizes for guessing that they decompiled Photoshop to source code, processed that to some kind of non-code specification language, then fed the spec to an LLM with an instruction to generate Rust. Adobe just got nuked. And closed source is dead, dead, dead. github.com/storytold/photocr…

Judging by ODNR’s recent track record of inspecting wastewater injection wells it doesn’t seem we’ve gotten a whole lot further in the past 165 years
in 1861, groundwater was legally defined in an Ohio supreme court ruling as too “secret, occult and concealed” to regulate.

The last uncolonized places: Antarctica, the deep ocean, space, the interior of your skull. Defend them to the death, before they are extracted of all value, turned into commodities. A line must be drawn, or there will be nowhere left that isn't a broken husk of what it once was
