The data center industry has been running roughshod over democratic process at local, state, and federal levels. This "permitting reform" is an affront to the hundred of thousands of Americans who have spoken up against data centers projects in their community.
The Senate permitting bill would be a gift to data centers and their massive gas buildout. It would weaken accountability + give developers more power at communities’ expense. Congress should reject the bill. Read more: oilchange.org/blogs/senate-p…

Instead of faster permiting, we need a nationwide moratorium. This will give us more time to understand the dangers of this new technology, the effects it will have on nearby communities, and the effect on our country's energy infrastructure.

We cannot continue to rush headlong into a build out that will lock in decades of emissions, threaten the public health of communities across the country, and build a technology that leading experts from these very companies warn poses an existential risk to humanity.

August’s report found that 48,545 more conventional wells reported producing oil or gas than reported waste in 2025. A quick reminder: oil and gas production generates waste, and these reporting gaps leave serious questions about where it goes.

Failure to report required waste information violates legally binding state regulations. PA DEP should investigate these reporting gaps and hold operators accountable for violations, including through civil penalties and enforcement orders.

☢️The fracking company CNX is expanding a voluntary radiation monitoring program. We are skeptical that "Radical Transparency" can be achieved through voluntary industry initiatives, and think we need much more scrutiny of radioactive dangers fractracker.org/2026/09/cnxs…

Much of the radioactivity of fracking waste is alpha and beta radiation, radon, particulate matter. Monitoring gamma radiation is one step in the right direction, but not enough to quantify the full harm and risks a program that deems radioactive waste "safe".

Through Right-to-Know requests, we obtained about 400,000 pages of PA waste records. A Chesapeake wastewater sample held radium at nearly 2,000× EPA's drinking-water limit. which only lab testing reveals. PA needs enforceable, agency-led requirements.
