📽️ My #HaskellX talk "Not My Type" about #TypeSystems is out! There you will find info on types, #Haskell ADTs and some examples on the flexibility of how you can set up your domain model through fitting types. Enjoy! 🫖 Thanks, @skillsmatter 💚 youtu.be/cVYIeN-7cJA

The more I use AI, the less time I have. It keeps expanding what I think I can do. Code. Design. Research. Then somehow I am 14 chats deep comparing mortgages, tax rules, Vedānta metaphysics, and whether ancient Greek Buddhist soldiers were actually a thing. AI lets me do the work of six people. Unfortunately, all six have access to my calendar. Maybe the new skill is deciding what not to do. Or maybe that was always the skill, and AI just made it painfully obvious.

Classicists thought love, work, and character were skills. Romantics thought they were feelings. Modern life kept romantic expectations while living under classical demands. No wonder everyone thinks they are failing. Classicism teaches how to sustain what matters. Romanticism only tells us what should matter.

The last century trained humans to confuse identity with occupation. Automation is about to expose how dangerous that was. Jobs are not meaning. They were a proxy. Real meaning lives in: - creation and ownership (even if it makes no money, even if AI can do it in 30 seconds) - chosen bonds (family, friends, community, volunteering) - lived experience (hedonistically: what gives you pleasure) The rest was a social hack.
I am very excited about AI, but to go off-script for a minute: I built an app with Codex last week. It was very fun. Then I started asking it for ideas for new features and at least a couple of them were better than I was thinking of. I felt a little useless and it was sad.

Agriculture was humanity’s first cage. From hunter-gatherers → tied to land, disease, famine, crowding. Innovation let many escape the land entirely. AI changes the equation again. Land is finite. Productivity is abstracted. Land becomes a real asset again.

AI makes you faster. It also makes it easier to skip the struggle that creates understanding. Anthropic paper: Junior engineers scored 17% lower when learning a new Python library with AI. Debugging collapsed first. No pain, no intellectual gain.

Prank idea > study CS for 5 years > take on student debt > grind LeetCode > work 60–80h/week > build internal tools > replace you with an LLM trained on your own code

Heard something interesting at a Cursor meetup, from the Cursor host: “We read every single line of code LLMs output.” “Agents are far from doing the job correctly.” “We want agents to run for weeks.” There is tension (maybe a contradiction) here. Long-running agents + low trust = is a compounding risk. Unless control systems evolve faster than autonomy. Both cannot exist at the same time.

Everything fails eventually. Failure is expected, not exceptional. AI means more deployments, not fewer, and more ways to break things. Design systems where one failure does not take everything down. Deploy ≠ release.

Enjoyed this nice read recently! It is always great to see practical Haskell idioms shared. Special thanks for mentioning `inverseMap` from my `relude`. I use it a lot myself, and it is lovely to see others finding it useful too exploring-better-ways.bellro…

The old 20% is the new 80%. LLMs keep dropping every month. OpenAI → Anthropic → Google → Grok → repeat. Scaling is basically done with the current architecture. Models are hitting the ceiling. Claude Opus 4.5 just hit 80% on SWE benchmarks. Humans are shaking. What’s left? The cursed 20%. Judgment, taste, context, not being an NPC (very hard) Invest there if you do not want to get replaced. The first 80% is already gone.
