How can NHS improve the retention of IMG doctors?
Starter pack 🧵
Please stop telling non-training grade doctors that they are just service provision & shouldn't expect help with personal development & training.

Dear 🇬🇧,
As we approach the NHS 75th anniversary, here's your reminder that 10 years ago, it was ranked the #1 healthcare system on Earth. You don't need a new system. You need a new govt that won't intentionally destroy it for their own financial benefit.
#SOSNHS #NHS75

ALT A chart from the Commonwealth Fund 2014 "Mirror Mirror" report ranking healthcare systems among wealthy nations. The UK ranked 1 in nearly every category, including overall ranking. It delivered the best care for the least amount of money, beating every other wealthy nation. We don't need a new healthcare system. We need a new government that will care about it.

The view of trainees can be quite different to the consultants who are involved in the development. #TC2023 @Anaes_Trainees
Thorny issue of Anaes Associates being discussed at #TC2023 @Anaes_Trainees Chair @DrNFreeman is deftly articulating the views of trainees.

I do like the term “sensory disintegration” to describe disconnection between (still functioning) brain regions.

She was in her 40s.
A junior doctor.
Older than all her peers, she was different.
She was the one who left on time.
Eyes rolled.
People tutted.
She wasn't committed.
She lacked dedication.

Not as much media coverage as I would’ve expected but if you weren’t aware, junior docs in England are striking from today. Here’s a great explanation of why #JuniorDoctorsStrike #SolidarityWithStrikes

Being a trainee doctor is actually like being in a an abusive relationship (I’ve done both).
You convince yourself you aren’t able to leave (because what else would you do?).
You feel like you’d be a failure for ‘giving up’.
You accept bad treatment because you’re scared. – at London, England

America; you can buy a 1000 doses of 800mg 🤔 Ibuprofen (400mg is likely optimal & little to be gained beyond 600mg)
but you dose paracetamol at only 650mg 🤯 (but you can still buy them by the 1000s of doses)
1g paracetamol with 400mg ibuprofen combined NNT= 1.5 and very safe

With all due respect to whoever devised CST, it really isn’t worth the headache!
I would suggest you do the CST equivalent CREST form. Competencies aren’t that difficult to get signed off & you avoid the headache that CST brings.
