Video on the top screen, controls on the bottom, all built from Video.js v10 components and some CSS.
It needs Safari feature flags today, but it's a good look at what composable v10 makes possible.
@darius_cepulis breaks it down in a thread and blog post:
Plyr has been one of the best-loved players on the web for years, and that's all Sam. We're lucky he brought that same care to Video.js 10.
Thank you @sam_potts, and welcome Plyr folks. You'll feel at home 🫶
Plyr is now officially deprecated and it's time to give Video.js 10 a whirl! plyr.io/
Thanks for all the support over the years! 🙏
Friends ran for 10 seasons.
David Tennant was the 10th Doctor Who.
The Great Longneck Migration was the 10th Land Before Time.
VJS 10 is now GA. Smol, customizable, and plays nice with your agents so they can help you migrate like Littlefoot.

Video.js v10 beta is here!
Video.js v10 is a complete rewrite combining four (!!) open source players into one.
With 88% smaller default bundles, first-class React and TypeScript support, composable architecture, and beautiful new skins, you’re sure to fall back in love with your video player ♥️

Vidstack, Media Chrome, Plyr. Now we're building one player together — Video.js v10, from the ground up.
Here's my part of the story.

react-scan thinks our player is just a chill guy. Thanks to the power of signals and CSS there's no need for wasteful renders. You can also see in devtools that it's mostly just CSS vars updating and the DOM is stable.

📝 I set off to find the best way to make video with transparency work on the web.
Over 10 bug reports later, it turns out it's better to handle the transparency manually with WebGL. Here's how:

You can now try out my experimental JavaScript video parser!
All beginnings are humble: For now, you can only extract some basic metadata from it.

Done! Over 50 components added with micro animations. Next, working on our new home page. I already have the structure and content ready. It's going to be very simple, excited to share it soon.

❤️ Lots of love to the awesome @vidstackjs player, which makes the WebVTT chapters beautifully accessible ✨
We're using it in our backend and in all our upcoming client projects 🔥

For what it's worth as I've seen it come up a few times, you can create stream playlists client-side and pass them into our player like so:

Genuinely excited for this. If it lands, our media player performance and memory is going to dramatically improve.
We use hundreds of computations, memory snapshot shows 1066. I'll be able to shave off some considerable weight/complexity as well.

Video encoding is kind of magical. I'm a big nerd about video compression so I decided to break down a bit of how it actually works - new video up now!

Finally finished all features and bug fixes for 1.11@next! Tons of goodies coming, see our changelog. Starting to update docs tomorrow, if it goes well then we should be on track for a release this week! I'll make a video soon to talk over new stuff.
