Video on the top screen, controls on the bottom, all built from Video.js v10 components and some CSS. It needs Safari feature flags today, but it's a good look at what composable v10 makes possible. @darius_cepulis breaks it down in a thread and blog post:
Apple finally decided it's my turn to fold a phone. So I spent the weekend seeing if I could rebuild Netflix's folded iPhone Duo player on the web. This is Video.js 10 in Safari. Pretty close! 🧵

Plyr has been one of the best-loved players on the web for years, and that's all Sam. We're lucky he brought that same care to Video.js 10. Thank you @sam_potts, and welcome Plyr folks. You'll feel at home 🫶

Friends ran for 10 seasons. David Tennant was the 10th Doctor Who. The Great Longneck Migration was the 10th Land Before Time. VJS 10 is now GA. Smol, customizable, and plays nice with your agents so they can help you migrate like Littlefoot. videojs.org/blog/videojs-10

Reboot time, baby. After 16 years, we teamed up with Plyr, Vidstack and Media Chrome to make the open source player that the web deserves (again). Check out the v10 blog post, try it out, and give us feedback. videojs.org/blog/videojs-v10…

Video.js v10 beta is here! Video.js v10 is a complete rewrite combining four (!!) open source players into one. With 88% smaller default bundles, first-class React and TypeScript support, composable architecture, and beautiful new skins, you’re sure to fall back in love with your video player ♥️ Read @heff’s blog (and check out the site’s new look): videojs.org/blog/videojs-v10…

react-scan thinks our player is just a chill guy. Thanks to the power of signals and CSS there's no need for wasteful renders. You can also see in devtools that it's mostly just CSS vars updating and the DOM is stable.

Just a quick update that we're working on some underlying tooling to help us maintain our current player and to ship more frameworks, features, and themes in the future. There's a ton planned for 1.0 to dramatically improve DX, we just ask for some patience. Thanks!

Thanks to a recent report, we fixed an important bug in `1.12.6@next` that would slow apps down, especially when multiple player instances were active. The cause was an expensive auto-placement function running all the time for all floating panels (i.e., tooltips/menus).

Please upgrade when you can to avoid any issues. The fix ensures that auto-placement will only run for any given floating panel when it's visible.

📝 I set off to find the best way to make video with transparency work on the web. Over 10 bug reports later, it turns out it's better to handle the transparency manually with WebGL. Here's how: jakearchibald.com/2024/video…

We've pushed out performance improvements and bug fixes recently. The latest `1.12.1@next` includes SSR fixes for Next.js, and you now can pass the `<Image>` component to our `<Poster>` as shown in the docs. Planning out what will be included in 1.0 has started!

You can now try out my experimental JavaScript video parser! All beginnings are humble: For now, you can only extract some basic metadata from it.
