I Joined the Hacktoberfest Week 2 "Side Hustle" challenge on @ThePracticalDev. To build on open weight models and get a paying customer. My question: can cheap open source models design AND code a decent landing page? So I built Skulptor, an agent skill for exactly that. 🧵

I never really paid attention to open source but this year I am getting a bit curious about contributing. Surprisingly no one is talking about Hacktoberfest like before. What Happened? Any tips? @Samson_Goddy @swacblooms

I hope today's sessions were recorded. I missed them because of NYSC camp swearing in😪

Let us talk about one final observation about job hunting in the current tech market. Trying to navigate intense recruitment loops can be exhausting, but if you are actively looking for a role right now, you need to apply in mass numbers. 👇🧵

Let us talk about Behavioral Rounds. For most Software Engineering or Technical roles, this is the final stage. However, this round can be tricky. Some people get Ghosted even after getting positive feedback. Some Lessons based on my experiences.👇🧵
It's Hiring season again!!, everyone is applying for roles and advancing through rounds and I genuinely wish everyone success. But it takes more than wishes to be successful at interviews, you need specific mind shifts to do well. Let us talk about emotional composure!!! 👇🧵

There are exceptional Software Engineers, who take ownership of work, lead teams and have decent experience but still fail interview rounds. It has nothing to do with your self worth, You need to actively prepare. let us talk about interviews as an independent sport🧵👇

Over the past few months, I’ve interviewed at some of the top tech companies for software engineering roles. Going through multiple stages has taught me a lot about how engineering teams currently evaluate talent. We need to talk about the Post-AI bar. 👇🧵

Reading technical documentation can be incredibly boring, but recently I’ve found a cheat code: reading production deep-dives written by fellow engineers. I solved one of the toughest system design interview problems I've ever faced using a single free article. 👇🧵
Being good at what you do and convincing a recruiter or manager are two different things. Let us talk about "Proof of Work" and how it can help you stand out in real-time. 👇🧵

My teammate and I @UAwortu recently participated in the @dev_careers × @nombahq Hackathon. We didn't win 😂, but getting access to live payment APIs and building against real fintech infrastructure made it completely worth it. 🧵

Victor is a die hard Man City fan, on this particular Sunday ManU is playing against Man City and Victor must place his bet. He funds his sporty wallet and places his bet of N10,000 for "City to Win United" then goes to "watch match" with his guys confident he must cash out 🧵

Everyone has experienced this before, you try to purchase airtime from your bank app and suddenly network fluctuates and your app displays an error message like "an error occurred". But then no airtime yet, no debit alert and so you press "purchase" on your app again. This time👇

Websockets excel with real-time communication between clients and servers. They maintain a persistent connection between client and server facilitating bidirectional communication. Replacing pure HTTP with websockets would cause certain problems due to its design ...👇
If WebSockets enable real-time bidirectional communication, why not use WebSockets for all client-server communication instead of HTTP?

A CDN (content delivery network) is used to cache data to enable sites and applications respond blazingly fast. It works by storing a copy of the content on edge servers globally and serves them as required. The problem is that CDN works best for storing content that is👇
If CDN caches content globally and makes sites fast, why not cache everything on CDN, including user dashboards?

Load balancing is a process that distributes incoming traffic across multiple instances of a server to ensure availability, reliability etc. When a user is authenticated in such a system, the request passes through just one of these instances. Let's say the system experiences👇
Your API uses server-side sessions stored in memory. Works great until you add load balancing - users get logged out randomly. Why and how do you fix it?

A good strategy is "Webhook Secrets" Webhooks are event driven messages sent from one server to another in real-time. In payment systems, webhooks are mostly used to signify completion of events. "Users card has been debited" "Credit alert has occured" Webhook secrets help...👇

Your API has webhook endpoint that receives payment notifications. Hackers spam it with fake requests, triggering fraud alerts. How do you verify webhook authenticity?

I absolutely agree, was working on a strategy to optimize a queue last night and then @moniepoint dropped this youtu.be/IZOxzVn_T8Q?si=FVSG… It explains alot about optimizing Queues to reduce risk of failures. Was insightful and helps more if you can relate to the problems.
“Scalability” in distributed systems is rarely about CPU. 1. Coordination: leader elections, locks, metadata, consensus. One hot shard in etcd/ZooKeeper will ruin your day. 2. Backpressure: queues grow, retries amplify load, a 1% error rate becomes a traffic multiplier. 3. Data: re-sharding is a migration, not a config change. Hot keys and skew show up at 10x, not 2x. 4. Time: timeouts, jitter, GC pauses. p99 drives architecture, not average. 5. Observability: if you can’t trace one request across 6 hops, you’re not scaling, you’re guessing. Measure p95/p99, control retries, design for skew, and plan migrations before you “need to scale”.

As tech companies grow over time, so do their products. Often times APIs evolve to suit a more desired formatting style in responses. There are a few practices used to ensure old clients and even third party integrations don't crash when the APIs change. First is versioning 🧵👇

Your REST API evolved: added fields to responses, changed field names. Old mobile apps crash because they expect old format. How do you maintain backward compatibility?
