From a friend who isn't on Twitter:
I was riding down University Av and these two were chatting up a storm. Then this happened... this is why bike lanes need to be everywhere!!! 🥰
#bikeTO – at Toronto, Ontario
Similarly—this was rush hour yesterday at Wellington & John. Drivers around here shamelessly and flagrantly block pedestrian crosswalks.
Rode down Adelaide during rush hour. That is the wildest riding experience I've had in over a year, cars, construction and complete lack of law and order. #notsafe4bikesto #biketo

When Mark Saunders was police chief, Toronto's gay community repeatedly said there was a serial killer active in the community. Saunders outright publicly denied the possibility.
A year later when the serial killer was caught, Saunders blamed the gay community for not acting.
"Young Asian Americans may never experience...the longing that my mother harbored for the assurance that things might be okay, that her daughters would have a fighting chance in ways that she had given up on for herself."
I am WEEPING
I thought I liked this story by @conniewang — but when I started crying at the part where all the Connies meet their namesake Connie Chung at the story’s photo shoot, I realized I LOVED it 😭 THE PHOTOGRAPHER WAS ALSO NAMED CONNIE!!! I’M SCREAMING nytimes.com/interactive/2023…

I don't think that "separate the art from the artist" gets you very far when the artist keeps publicly reinterpreting her body of work in service of her current political agenda.

The cycling community cannot support politicians who fail communities other than our own just because they build us a bike lane or ride a bike.
Achieving safe streets will require us to support & find intersections with equity seeking groups, green & anti-poverty movements.

Welcome to Toronto, we don't have swimming lessons, reliable transit, public toilets, not-gross garbage cans, remotely affordable housing or adequate sewer capacity
Which is why we will spend $50m more on our budget's biggest line item, which addresses none of those problems

There's been a lot of talk about how Toronto's construction zones are unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists, so @MischaYoung did a systematic study - and it's as bad as you thought. #walkTO #bikeTO spacing.ca/toronto/2022/11/1…

#topoli I want to revisit this question: why, in an election that determines the mayor of Canada’s *largest* city, is the ONLY mayoral debate taking place > early voting ends & < one week before election day? In which universe does this seem like a system that respects voters?

Speaking of September holidays:
Sept 30th is recognized as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - a federal statutory holiday.
The Ontario government didn’t declare it a provincial holiday.

The Federal government announces a national holiday to mark Queen Elizabeth’s death.
We are still waiting on word from the Premier‘s office to see whether Ontario will follow suit.
