Friday afternoon thoughts: Are we solving the right problems? futurejourneys.substack.com/…
If you have thoughts on more inclusive micromobility, @RiDC_UK are looking into this right now ridc.org.uk/news/research-ho…
Had the pleasure of creating a course for @CIHTUK, considering impacts of poor journey design on people with dementia, with help from an expert team @agnes_houston @GerakdK1063 @charliemuss @mobilitystories and other friends. Join us for the launch next wk bit.ly/3UAtOok

Making public transport and active travel more affordable, accessible, and sustainable is an anti-poverty measure.
@scotgov can help by supporting public control over buses and extending free bus travel to more people on low incomes.
We asked public who gets a good/bad deal from current transport system🚗🚃🚌
They told us it's stacked against ppl who:
🔸Live in rural areas
🔸Are on a low income
🔸Are disabled
🔸Don't own a car
People with the best deal?
🔹On high income

Current projects are finishing up so I'm looking for new opportunities... if you're looking for a project partner or consultancy around inclusive mobility/accessibility/just transition/inclusive design, please get in touch...
Reading reports asking how big plans and strategies will be implemented and hearing talks calling for systems change, leaving nobody behind etc. But time is short, so I ran a workshop to put some ideas out there for more inclusive decarbonisation plans... upstream.scot/blog/2024/3/20…

Biodiversity loss and climate change are not information deficit problems, and will not be solved by ever more precise data about where and how fast they are happening

ALT This graphic is a mix of blues and dark grey against a white background. It shows a train with rail tracks and people waiting to get on, including a wheelchair user, person with a buggy, person with luggage. The graphic also shows a ferry, a bus, a NHS facility with Blue Badge parking and a wheelchair user at the side of a wheelchair accessible vehicle with the tailgate up. The graphic also shows a trike and a bus being hailed.
"We need to show that what surrounds us, shapes us. We need to explain the challenges we face in that context..." This is so important. Inequalities have been normalised. Constant, siloed attempts to 'fix' barriers when we should be crafting new systems that don't create them...
‘You reap what you sow.’
Phrases like this embody a particularly dominant mindset in the UK: individualism.
Whilst individualism has its place, too much focus on individual choices distracts us from inequitable systems.
How can we redress this balance?

Love this from @mobilitystories - kindness isn’t a KPI or an evaluation metric. It doesn’t have a ‘route to market’ either. But we know it when we experience it. What would it look like if we created the conditions for people to be kind?

POV: you’re a wheelchair user and the staff haven’t turned up with a ramp, so you’re trapped on an empty train.
The emergency alarm is out of my reach so I have to rely on my shouting skills.
How would you feel if there was a risk of this happening every time you use the train?
Building inclusion into transport decarbonisation design is an opportunity, not a complication. It's a time-limited design gift but we need a new approach. I'll be sharing some ideas to start conversations off on Thursday... eventbrite.co.uk/e/think-wor… @KevinClimate @GeorgeMonbiot
Incorporating inclusion into design for decarbonisation is an opportunity, not a complication. It's a time-limited redesign gift and we need to move now. On Thursday we'll be considering real actions to start taking that opportunity. Sign up here: eventbrite.co.uk/e/think-wor…?
Is travel becoming more equitable? If not, what will ensure fair transport decarbonisation? We need a radical rethink and action. I'll share some ideas on 29 Feb with

Transport is key but next week we'll be widening the focus and asking how #journeys can be more inclusive, safe and meet climate goals. We'll share a tool that could immediately align and combine inclusion and climate efforts. Free online workshop 29 Feb: eventbrite.co.uk/e/think-wor…

Some background here: upstream.scot/blog/2024/2/20… I reckon we'll need to hurry up and slow down, use a new lexicon of travel, use our imagination and borrow from others already making plans.
