Every packet made cheaper & easier to buy puts another young person at risk of nicotine addiction. Raising tobacco taxes keeps these products further from children's hands, prevents lifelong addiction, & saves public funds that can strengthen healthcare, & education.

Speaking about the 5th #UAPC26, president @Movendi_Int @juliet_namukasa says people are becoming more aware of the benefits of better health. However, big alcohol brands are aggressively targeting & marketing to Africa, Uganda included, with heavy advertising and publicity.
🚨 Uganda ranks #1 in Africa and 5th globally in alcohol consumption. This is not an award to celebrate, it is a national warning. Vice Chairperson @BagumaRT says as he opens the @PolicyUganda Media Press Briefing.

At the Post International Youth Day Webinar on Different Contexts, Common Aspirations hosted by @Youth4SDGsUga , @KalemaxA has shared lessons from serving as a UN Youth Delegate for Uganda and leading digital storytelling at @UNAUganda like #MySDGsImpactStory campaign. "The aspiration is the bridge; the context gives the story its meaning." Young people may live in different realities, but many share the same hopes: opportunity, dignity, good health, participation and a better future. Digital storytelling helps move us from statistics to people, from assumptions to understanding. The technology is not the story. The person is the story. And as we implement the #PactForTheFuture, enough of calling young people the leaders of tomorrow. Their tomorrow is now.

The stories of young people contributing to the different SDGs are endless. Kean, President of the Cavendish University UNAU Chapter, is championing SDG 3 through his passion for mental health and well-being. Like Kean, many young people have stories that remain untold. We’re bringing life to their efforts. #MySDGsImpactStory

The drinking problem in Uganda is real. Enough of Uganda being ranked among Africa’s highest alcohol-consuming countries. Many have resorted to home production and consumption. We believe bars should open at 5:00pm, not 3:00pm. We are losing productive people to alcohol.

The SDGs are not only found in reports, conferences or policy documents. They are in the young person creating work, the farmer adopting better practices, the teacher keeping a child in school, the health worker serving a community. Across Uganda, people are doing things that make a difference. #MySDGsImpactStory is here to find those stories, put faces and numbers to the work, and show what progress looks like on the ground. This is more than a campaign. It is a record of what Ugandans are doing to move their communities forward. What is your #MySDGsImpactStory?

“I QUIT” - two words that can take a lot of courage to say. The tobacco industry works hard to keep people using its products once they start. But quitting is possible, and every attempt matters. Say NO to tobacco use. Protect your health. 🚭

A family outing shouldn't be a child's first encounter with alcohol or shisha. Flavours, branding, influencers & online marketing are making these products look normal and attractive to young people. It's time to strengthen regulation, promote awareness & protect them.
