The editorial board at @BostonGlobe trashes a “bewildering” @MassGovernor EO pushing the use of government-mandated project labor agreements on taxpayer-funded #construction projects “as an effort to curry favor with union leaders” during a serious state budget crisis. #NoPLAs

Inflationary government-mandated project labor agreements kill jobs. @GovTinaKotek’s costly pro-PLA EO deserves the heave-ho.
CSI's new report analyzes the economic implications of Governor Tina Kotek’s Executive Order 24-31, which mandates the use of Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) for state-funded construction projects. Requiring PLAs for state construction projects may increase costs up to 20%. A 10% rise in construction costs could reduce statewide employment by 33,146 jobs by 2030 and 27,690 jobs by 2040. Huge news in the #NoPLAs fight. Biden’s push for project labor agreement mandates on federally assisted projects was irresponsible, especially in the face of rampant inflation, labor shortages & lack of competition on taxpayer-funded #construction projects. More analysis soon.
Late yesterday, Pres. Trump issued an Executive Order revoking 19 Biden EOs. EO 14126 has been rescinded. It pushed anti-competitive and inflationary project labor agreements on federally assisted #construction projects funded via ARPA, IIJA, CHIPS and IRA bills. Its demise is good news for taxpayers, construction workers, small businesses and merit-based competition.
