On this day, 44 years ago, union members in the metal industry won the 38-hour week. This right was not given to us. It was won by the determined action of working people in their unions.

The @RBAInfo's board is out of touch. Always pointing the finger at workers instead of calling out the real problem: profit-driven price hikes and corporate greed. There’s only two ways out — either costs go down, or wages need to go up. theaustralian.com.au/nation/…

Over 30,000 @Qantas employees across AMWU @AWUnion @ETU_national @TWUAus @ASUnion @FAAA_Au have condemned the airline’s corporate greed after today's $2.4b profit announcement that's been built on the back of an underpaid, disrespected workforce. Stop underpaying your workers!

BREAKING NEWS: Fantastic Same Job, Same Pay win for our BHP members in Queensland. For too long, labour hire arrangements have been used to rip-off workers. This decision by the FWC delivers equal pay to all the skilled tradespeople at BHP, no matter who their employer is.

After weeks of negotiation, Qantas told engineers yesterday that the same deal they already rejected is “back on the table”, demanding the unions endorse it. Fail to accept, and they’ll take away their workforce’s backpay. This is a disgraceful attempt to strongarm the very people who kept Qantas planes flying safely through a pandemic, endured pay freezes, and sacrificed decent wages for over a decade. And while this sort of corporate bullying is cheered by the Liberals & Nationals, we will always stand behind working Australians. No more delays, it's time for fair pay.

.@Qantas up to its old game. A day after being hit with a $90 million penalty for illegally sacking @TWUAus workers, it's threatened workers' backpay if we don’t accept their pathetic offer after years of wage freezes. AMWU @AWUnion @ETU_national members standing united & strong!

If we’re talking productivity, we have to talk about how workers fairly share in it. Because here’s the truth: productivity is up, wages are flat, & bosses are pocketing the gains. A shorter working week is the fair way forward.

"One of the ways that we can share in productivity, if we’re more productive over the course of the week, is to work less hours. That would be a great outcome from a productivity discussion" – AMWU National Secretary, @Murphy_Steve theaustralian.com.au/nation/…

✊UNION WIN 🧵 Today, the Fair Work Commission has ruled that over 1,600 labour-hire workers at BHP's Bowen Basin mines must be paid the same as directly employed workers on site because they do the same work, in the same workshops, under the same direction.

BHP tried to argue that contractors don't do the same job, but their arguments didn't hold up against the strength of AMWU and MEU members united for wage justice.

From now on, these workers will be paid the protected rate of pay under BHP's union-negotiated EBA, including all the allowances, loadings and penalties they're entitled to. It's not just a pay rise, it's respect for workers, and that's what unionism is all about. #samejobsamepay
