SeqFu has a new website!
We tried to make it nicer, but also introduced new in-browser applets.
Try these two:
- 📊 STATS to calculate N50, plots, and more for one or more files
- 🔍 LESS to have a small preview of FASTQ files, with oligo match ..

Massive changes in phage taxonomy. RIP to Myo-, Podo- and Siphoviridae. Hello to genomically defined families. Huge community efforts have re-classified many of these but still many to go (especially former Sipho)
How well do current tools detect antimicrobial resistance genes in metagenomes?
@skt_genomics & team benchmarked 5 widely used methods across different sequencing coverages and community complexities, highlighting trade-offs between accuracy and computational cost.
The preprint is available at biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
The bioinformatic method (Nextflow) is available at: workflowhub.eu/workflows/208…

Trump’s comments yesterday that immigrants had bad genes that made them “criminals’ is right out of the fascist playbook. Hitler said the same about Jews. This disgraceful man should be nowhere near the Presidency.

Elon Musk's favorite supposed data expert, who he's retweeted at least a dozen times, claims she can only process 60,000 rows of data before her "hard drive overheats"
In my initial run, which processed the first 60,000 rows, I did not find these awards—my hard drive overheated long before I could complete a full pass through the database. In a later run, which I referenced in another post, I did identify two such awards. That discrepancy is a matter of sampling size, not an issue with the query itself.
I’ll now attempt a full run, which should capture the awards you found.

When Trump was sworn in, Elon Musk's corporations were under more than 32 investigations conducted by at least 11 federal agencies.
Most of the cases are now closed or likely to be closed soon, and the federal agencies are being defanged by DOGE.
Funny how that works, huh?

A publication system based on @biorxivpreprint plus community notes would be INFINITELY SUPERIOR to what we have today, and would cost $10 billion per year less.

Two papers.
On the left, a non-randomized, non-crossover study showing that a one-off sauna exposure significantly decreased arterial stiffness, with implications on cardiovascular health.
On the right, a randomized, crossover (more robust) study, showing no benefits on arterial stiffness or blood flow. Note the colossal difference in Altmetric score and media attention.
The media favors sensational but flawed studies over rigorous ones, distorting public understanding. #science #media

This is former GOP Rep. Michael Grimm. He was recently involved in a tragic accident that has left him paralyzed and is seeking $2.5 million on GoFundMe to cover his expenses.
Grimm voted against the Affordable Care Act to block health care access for millions of Americans.
