Just adding to the grumpy chorus of folks tagging @VerizonSupport @verizon about the international connectivity outage. No communication from them, and the front line support wasn’t aware when I called. Poor form.

The spread of Notify, an open source messaging service, is a great example of a civic technology for public good that is it itself a public good. public.digital/2023/03/21/th… Great work on the @Digital_Gov team on a pilot that could be scaled across the United States — and beyond.

9 mo. later as an SMS product manager vs. web analytics guy: I remain against shorteners, but I’m more intimately aware of the tension between 160 character SMS limits and full URLs with campaign parameters. How can we promote trust, measure impact, AND use short URLs in texts?
Give me reasons why your org still uses link shorteners. Bc I don't get it.
1. t.co solves the character limit AND trust in destination issues
2. For print/billboard, Linktree-like model is better
3. Shortener analytics always inflated. Use Campaign URLs
Iteration: agency.gov/textlinks and ONLY include it in your SMS campaigns. Assumedly, all traffic only comes from the SMS campaigns and all conversions that start with that entrance are attributed to said campaign. Seems feasible?
Our grandparents were the pre-television generation, our parents the pre-internet generation, and we are the pre-GPT generation.
Automation of the automators.
Last night I used GPT-4 to write code for 5 micro services for a new product.
A (very good) dev quoted £5k and 2 weeks.
GPT-4 delivered the same in 3 hours, for $0.11
Genuinely mind boggling
While everyone’s talking about SMS today, feel free to check out the work we’re doing to help government reach you more easily via text: digital.gov/2023/02/07/colla…
