spawn creator interview #4: special education teacher by day. “one more boss fight tweak” until 4am.
@OneHitKillDev made little Flash games when he was younger, then spent 20+ years in education. now he’s building One Hit Kill on spawn, bringing together everything he loves about WoW Arena, Tekken, and Souls games.
my favorite detail: a boss fight worked exactly as instructed. five parries, then a stun. but playing it, he could feel the tiny delay that made it unsatisfying. so he fixed it.
that’s decades of playing games turning into taste he can finally put to work.
on weekends, he builds with his kids. they still draw. they still invent stories. now they get to play them.
creator interview #4. “just one more thing” until it’s 4am and he has to teach tomorrow.
We can't keep getting away with this! We found a way to vibe code crack into a video game.
We just added Arenas to League of Spawn, and it's more fun than ever.
Love MOBAs and team fights, but hate all the boring shit? Then this update is for you!!
We got your PvP fix in 15 mins or less!

You are a fern, you need light to survive. You drag a stone, ride a log, and jump off an island toward the sun. That's the game. That's the whole game. I've played it eleven times.
artists with spawn are a problem.
you spend years developing taste, obsessing over tiny details, knowing exactly how something should feel.
that’s one hell of a head start.
It's easy to get caught up beating your chest on X and only showing the wins. So here's something I tried with League of Spawn that just wasn't fun lol.
It's called Warpath. A 5v5 mode where both teams race through monsters on separate paths, spend the gold they earn, then meet for a head to head fight. First team to win 3 fights wins the game.
I wanted to break up the usual MOBA flow. Took a little inspiration from Destiny's Gambit and the PvE rounds in TFT, with this race that culminates in a direct clash with the opposing team.
Had a friend try it and he said he was ready to uninstall. "It's a browser game lmao."
I think the biggest problem is the PvE. The monsters aren't really threatening you, and there isn't enough room to play the race better. I can already imagine mirror comps clearing at almost the same speed because there just isn't enough happening to separate them.
I could probably improve it with more intentional encounters, attacks to dodge and decisions about how much to pull. But getting that right would take more work than I want to put into this mode right now, so back to the idea bank it goes.
This is what's so awesome about development in the Opus 5.5 era. I can get an idea into a playable state fast enough to find out it isn't fun, then move on instead of staying stuck on what I imagined it could be.
Still think there's something in the concept. This version just didn't hit.

“can’t generate anything this nice with LLMs”
bro benchmarked himself 📷
made this with opus 5.5 in spawn. just talked to savi.
We're not here to take part, we're here to take over!
In just one week we've built a MOBA from the ground up. Shipped 3 totally different battlegrounds. Released 24 heroes. And that's only scratching the surface.
It might not be the first 3rd person MOBA, but I promise you we're approaching things from a different angle.
Dragonscrest just dropped, and it's an absolute banger. All that ARAM-style madness, with dragon souls to fight over and a giant Dragon Knight to help you push through the enemy base.
Opus 5.5 opened Pandora's box with gamedev and there's no going back.
“it’s a way to let people into my brain.”
day three: the creator of Inkblade @GFunkyTheAnimal.
he makes music, sculpts clay and cement, and spent years imagining a game drawn entirely in thin black lines.
now you can walk around in it. even the ink in your sword moves when you shake it.
the first player to beat it got a place in a secret room inside the game.
but my favorite part is the guy who calls himself a lone wolf getting DMs from players saying “i don’t make friends very easy.”
his answer: “me neither. but this is great.”
i’ll let him tell it:
“after bedtime it’s build time.”
day two: wolf (@MAXWOLF17), the maker of Orra.
he has a day job, a seven-year-old and a four-year-old. he says he knows nothing about game design.
so every night from 8 to midnight he builds a shooter about knights whose glass armor holds their family’s memories.

i’ll let him tell it:
he rejected five versions of Spawn.
the sixth ruined his sleep schedule.
every day creators tell me stories about what’s happening in Spawn that i wish everyone could hear.
so we’re sitting down with them and sharing their stories.
first up is robot (@alightinastorm).
i sent him six versions of Spawn over two years. he kept telling me “this is not good j, sorry.”
then he tried v6.
i’ll let him tell you what happened after that:
i designed savi around the idea that making a game should feel like playing jazz with someone really good.
you try something, she picks it up, it gives you another idea. fast enough to keep going.
an agent disappearing for an hour breaks that. i want to play while we’re building.
Your game deserves better than “hey guys, check out my game.”
Every Spawn game now comes with a marketing kit:
- Clips showing off the cool stuff
- A brand built around your game’s name, art, and personality
- Materials to get your Discord going
- Starting points for telling your story and getting people interested
Savi already knows what you’re building. We use your game, its assets, and everything you’ve told Savi to figure out what makes it special, then build the kit around that.
You’ve put a lot into your game. Now you have a way to show people why they should play it.

Yeah this is exactly the sort of stuff I based myself on, was always on TV here too hahaha

It does actually! It has a simple 1v1 matching mode where you build your bot and then fight
