Meet at Newcastle Civic Centre at 18.30 on Thursday 22 October for an easy ride through the Toon.
Women deserve to feel safe wherever and whenever they ride. Glow Rides kick off this Thursday, 22 October, calling for safer streets for women. Because safer streets for women mean safer streets for everyone. Find your local glow ride: cyclinguk.org/glow-rides #MyRideOurRight

It was the singular focus on dualling that meant A1 safety improvements were delayed. The lesson to be learned from this is not to repeat the same mistake again.

New paper by the World’s most prominent climate scientists shows rapid acceleration of human-caused warming, with a warming rate now that tracks to near 2.4°C by 2050, far faster than was expected, if it continues. From paper: “We are witnessing the rapid destabilization of the Earth’s climate system. This is no longer a warning for the future; it is a diagnosis of the present. Earth’s life-support systems are being pushed beyond stable limits, with changes unfolding faster than our ability to respond. Human activities are driving profound shifts in the atmosphere, oceans, and biosphere.” Paper Link in replies… H/T @LeonSimons8 …

Of nearly 19,000 driving violations captured over two weeks, precisely zero drivers were prosecuted. This is because there isn't enough back-office capacity at West Midlands Police, and the process to issue fines hasn't kept pace with camera tech. bbc.com/news/articles/c39wzp…

Impact of a fuel duty cut when supply is constrained: Risks worsening shortages. Cheaper fuel boosts demand straining already limited supply & potentially leading to quicker stockouts/queues. High prices naturally ration scarce fuel by curbing non-essential use. By @grok
Cut rail fares. Cut bus fares. Slash fuel duty. Our plan to cut the cost of living and Keep Britain Moving. ⬇️

But if you live in a city & walk or cycle as your commute, you can get exercise/steps (& potentially hobby time if your hobby is walking or cycling) for minimal extra time commitment while also getting fitter and more productive.
No, you cannot walk 10,000 steps daily, get 8 hours of sleep, cook every night, clean every day, take care of a family, make time for your own hobbies, and still be productive at work every day. This is not just propaganda, it is nonsense. Free yourself from it.

To be fair, the new entrance is quite handy for the cycle racks.
*Sigh*. Newcastle’s Central Station was once promised a new southern entrance (see left pic) to open up access to a redeveloped Stephenson’s Quarter. After years of waiting we ended up with a small hole punched through a wall as a cheaper western entrance instead (right pic).

Over on our BlueSky post a @NewcastleCC councillor has advised no timelines can be given due to an ongoing legal battle. See response: bsky.app/profile/northeastpt… Unfortunately passengers will continue to be inconvenienced in the meantime. 2 years and counting so far.
TWO YEARS come Sunday, @NewcastleCC posted this. For two years bus passengers with mobility issues, pushchairs, wheelchairs and luggage have been inconvenienced. They deserve better. World class, @KiMcGuinness? @danhollandnews @BBCNEandCumbria @jimscottjourno @ChronicleLive

This is very unusual. “Reckless indifference to an unjustifiably high risk to human life”, which counts as murder, could apply to many driving offences. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder

Presumably doubling passenger numbers also means twice the emissions. Makes you wonder if @Heidi_Labour is genuinely committed to Net Zero by 2050.

One thing that would really help is more safe cycling infrastructure.
I know people are worried about fuel prices. And I get it. You get to the pump, watch the numbers climb, and wonder why it's costing so much more than it used to.   The reality is that global events are pushing up costs, and families here at home are feeling the impact.   But I won't accept that there's nothing I can do to help.   That's why from today, you'll be able to see petrol and diesel prices on Google Maps, compare nearby stations and find the cheapest option before you fill up.   It's a small change, but if there's a practical way to help people keep more money in their pocket, I'll do it.

Labour +13% on transport. With Tory and Reform objecting to 20mph and other safety measures this may well increase.
Not looking good for the right, especially the Tories.

This was the Coast Road, connecting Newcastle & North Tyneside last night. Despite the funding, bus services sit in traffic daily, adding to journey times & reducing reliability. What will it take to change this, if not £163 million? Where is the political will to improve buses?

@NorthEastPTUG @space4gosforth @StagecoachNE Fantastic News! You are promoting for people to use the bus by advertising the Newcastle 49 and X47 from Gosforth to Newcastle... BUT.... you are aware the X47 doesn't go to Gosforth! Sure our NE mayor knows this @KiMcGuinness
