A bill (S3601) to create such a moratorium is sponsored by NY State Sen. Jamaal Bailey, from Westchester's Mount Vernon, another predominantly Black community where the hospital faces the threat of closing or radical capacity cuts.

I had the honor to work alongside Ms. Meertens for many years at Kingsbrook. It absolutely should not close. Kingsbrook covers a healthcare niche that no other facility can match. Healthcare is about human beings, and the human beings of East Flatbush and Crown Heights need KJMC.
