We're the Caring Majority, and we're ready to win big this year! This weekend, 80+ Caring Majority leaders joined in Albany and virtually for our annual grassroots member leader retreat – it was a huge success!
We left with a shared understanding of what we're fighting for, the landscape we're fighting in, and a plan for building power across New York so we can win a home care system that works for us, not for corporations.
Incredible worker meeting last week. This is what it looks like to build power for home care workers and family caregivers, and how we’ll win fair pay and end the PPL monopoly.
Stay tuned for more updates and ways to get involved, coming very soon :)
"The fact that workers were not getting paid at all or on time by PPL had a devastating effect on both workers and consumers. In our membership alone, we had 3 members die because they could not get the care they needed."

.@NYHealthCommish article in @EMPIREREPORTNY is a joke. Here's a small sampling of the "results" delivered by NY's private equity takeover of CDPAP.
Merely a recent sampling of HUNDREDS OF SCREENSHOTS of this nature. Missed paychecks. Dead-end phone lines. Lost care.
Unless “delivering results” means at least 150k Personal Assistants and 90k Consumers exiting the CDPAP program, McDonald’s claims are a LIE.
How is PPL still getting away with this?

NEW: @TeamUpturn analysis of NYCM survey data lays out exactly how PPL has failed New York's home care workers and consumers under its $1 billion state contract.
"It can take up to 12 tries" just to clock in. Unpaid wages. Dead-end phone lines. Great resource to explain why choice MUST be restored to CDPAP!

Thanks @HelloDCWP Commissioner @saalevine for meeting with Caring Majority leaders to discuss the most pressing issues faced by NYC’s home care workers & consumers.
Home care work is the largest job category in NYC. We look forward to further collaboration to ensure the City uses its full power to protect our community!

It’s been nearly two years of stress, economic hardship, and loss of quality home care since NY State handed over CDPAP to private equity-backed PPL.
We know that home care workers deserve better. We deserve the world, and we hold so much power when we unite.
If you’re a home care worker, family caregiver, consumer, or CDPAP stakeholder, please sign onto our letter of labor demands for PPL and NY State! bit.ly/WorkerDemands

On the other hand, after explaining the New York Health Act would eliminate private insurance options for covered services, majority of our survey respondents (76.22%) still support it.
Also, under NYHA, networks would be eliminated, meaning people have MORE choices, not less.
NEW: The debate over Medicare for All is changing.
--Abdul El-Sayed, endorsed by AOC and Bernie Sanders, is running on a vision of Medicare for All that would not outright ban employer coverage. It's the kind of plan that would have been pilloried by the left 7 years ago, but more closely reflects what voters say they want
--Think tanks are shopping around new, serious proposals for public options, for breaking up health care monopolies, for regulating insurers and hospitals. "People are very much in the ‘what is something that could actually work?’ phase," @nealemahoney told me.
