Looking through @AthleticsWeekly from early 1970s to find examples of road races for women. Back page of AW from 7th April 1973 - road races listed for men are 4 miles, 6 miles, 8 miles, 20 miles & a marathon. Just one road race for women & it's one mile! #WomensRunningHistory

Thank you. The fact McColgan’s victory was reduced to a couple of paragraphs at the end of a story has really annoyed me. What hope is there for women’s sport getting coverage in the mainstream press when a near European record has to play second fiddle?
30:23 is the third fastest women's 10km time in the world this year. 28:40 is the 71st fastest men's time, 28:44 is 83rd.

A rare exception to the rule that if a headline is a question, the answer is no. Great work from @maudhodson and @run_equal. "Should men and women run equal distances at cross-country?" runnersworld.com/uk/training…

EQUAL DISTANCES #SALbelieve Scotland leads, others follow ! Our National XC equalised Senior distances in 2017 and then all age groups (and #LindsaysXC events) thereafter 👍 @SALChiefExec @LordMcConnell @OvensDavid @MareeToddMSP @ianbeattie1 @MarkMunr0 So now @EuroAthletics 👇
From 2023 onwards, men and women will run the same distances across the programme at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships. More from the recent European Athletics Council meeting. ⬇

I just signed up for a local XC league. Senior women 6000m senior men 10000m. I told my colleague (who doesn't run) how this is a thing and she was shocked and didn't even know women running shorter distances was a thing #ukrunchat @run_equal #ukrunners

What a day for GB women! Medals for Laura Kenny, Katie Archibald, Kate French, Laura Muir, the Hockey team, 4x100m relay squad, & a final tomorrow for Lauren Price. Stories of competing as a mum, comebacks from injury, breaking national records. Role models? Spoilt for choice💫

Over and over again, sports clubs claim that their sport has historically been ‘male-only’, and hint at how progressive they are for having allowed women to join in the 1960s/70s/80s/90s/2000s/2010s. It makes me so angry! It’s just not true.

A false narrative meant than women’s opportunities in athletics were stopped for 3 decades . This is still happening. Stories are powerful and easy to tell. Truth is harder to accept @run_equal @JoannaCoates @EnglandAthletic

At the 1928 Olympics, women ran the 800m for the 1st time. After the race, reporters wrote stories of women collapsing in utter exhaustion with half the field dropping out. None of that occured. The 800 was eliminated for 32 years. Stories are powerful. thegrowtheq.com/the-unfortun…
