JACS: Do you wonder how to homo-couple two nucleophiles or two radical species? Here's our solution via the persistent radical effect of coupling two free alkyl carboxylic acids.
A proud milestone for @rr_lab - our first JACS publication! Heartiest congratulations to Chandru, Bincy, Sanjai, Sheryl & Venkadesh for this remarkable achievement and well-deserved success. 👏✨pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/jac…

Congrats to our very own Prof. Varinder Aggarwal who has been awarded the 2026 Nagoya Gold Medal Prize. This prize was established in 1995 by Prof. Noyori and is awarded to an organic chemist who has made significant original contributions to the field in its broadest sense.

Henri Kagan’s path to scientific greatness was anything but straightforward.
Born near Paris in 1930, his childhood was shaped by World War II, when his family sought refuge in southern France under assumed names. Back at school, Kagan recalled being “not what you would call a good student.” He began on a literary track before discovering his fascination with mathematics, physics and chemistry.
The road remained bumpy:
he initially planned to become an engineer and failed his first entrance exam to chemistry school. He tried again, and succeeded.
That persistence and curiosity eventually helped Kagan become a pioneer of asymmetric catalysis, transforming scientists’ ability to create chiral molecules.
In 2001, Kagan shared the Wolf Prize in Chemistry with Ryoji Noyori and K. Barry Sharpless.
As Kagan later said: “One of the interests of research is to go toward the unknown, and to be attentive to the unexpected.”
A fitting description of his own journey. – at Jacinto City, TX

Another remarkable and intriguing cyclopropane synthesis and its enantioselective. I continue to recall the other cyclopropanations that you developed.
Uphill Photocatalysis with perfect atom economy: Cis-cyclopropanedicarbaldehydes, streamlining access to various drugs. Renewable furans, aldehydes, light, and Lewis acid catalysis are all that is needed. Congrats to Tim and Thomas! doi.org/10.1002/anie.3547092

Sudipta & Aniruddha from our group have defended their Ph.D. thesis work on Nickel catalysis. We bid farewell and wish them well in their next position. Many thanks to the Examiners: Profs. Basker Sundararaju @IITKanpur; Ramesh Rasappan @tvmiiser & P. C. Ravikumar @IiserTirupati
No more worry about handling sensitive reagents; our bench-stable organozinc reagents are stable in air for a few hours, and even cross-coupling reactions can be performed in open air. Here is the preprint
