Visiting Ark Soane today was an absolute delight! The students are brimming with ambition and scholarship. The warmth and positivity in both lessons and throughout the school was tangible, fostering a true love for learning. When you ask a student what they love most about their school and they respond sincerely and without hesitation "the teachers," you know it’s a special place A big thank you to Matt and the team for your generosity in sharing your time, experience, and insights! Would love to return with a curriculum focus – lots of questions! @ArkSoaneAcademy @Mr_Raichura #edchat #ELP2024 @ELProgramme

Thank you so so much @ArkSoaneAcademy for graciously welcoming 10 of our @TedWraggTrust leaders to your amazing school. The high standards & energy in each classroom were impressive, but what stood out to us was the culture of love, warmth, and kindness that permeated everywhere.

Really looking forward to leading a new @histassoc webinar series on assessment in history.
I’ve learnt so much from brilliant history teachers and educators in recent years, and can’t wait to share the most powerful ideas and approaches.

Behaviour in UK schools should be a far bigger media and political narrative than it currently is. It’s telling that certain corners would rather bash schools with exceptional behaviour/high expectations than acknowledge the chronic issues elsewhere.

Look at the numbers in this. Misbehaviour is so common.
This sort of low level disruption makes teaching SO hard. It sounds small, but it’s incredibly hard to manage.

🧵We think teaching is the best profession there is.
We get to work with committed colleagues, have transformational impact on the lives of children and young people, and are intellectually challenged in our endeavours to induct pupils into the great conversation of humankind.

A great thread from @michaeldoron on how bad ideas about pedagogy affect curriculum, and vice versa.
History, like science, has suffered from the flawed idea that epistemology is pedagogy - that the way professional historians use sources should be how students learn history.
What’s the worst development in history teaching over the last fifty years?
Here’s what I think it might be, written up as a long-ish thread. It’s half an ‘old man yells at cloud’ rant and half a summary of my workshop at the #Soane24 conference.
