If cheating your way to winning a Champions League, multiple Premier League titles, multiple FA Cups and multiple League Cups just results in a couple seasons in the Championship… everyone should do it.
What on Earth.

🧵 The King of White Hart Lane: How Alfie Conn became Spurs’ 1970s cult icon, taunted Leeds, and crossed the ultimate derby divide.
🎸 Long hair flowing over his collar, sideburns to die for, and shirt hanging outside his shorts—Alfie Conn was Tottenham Hotspur’s rock’n’roll footballer.
🏴 Arriving from Rangers for £140,000 in 1974, he was Bill Nicholson’s final signing before stepping down. On the Shelf and Park Lane end, the sentiment was immediate:
🗣️ “We’ve got our own George Best.”
🕺🏻 Conn certainly looked the part and played with a devil-may-care swagger that captivated N17.
🗣️ "George Best was my idol," Conn says now. "If I had an ounce of his ability, I’d have been quite happy."
💔 His time at Ibrox had already seen extreme highs and devastating lows. As an 18-year-old, he played in the 1971 Ibrox disaster that claimed 66 lives, an ordeal that left him deeply traumatised.
🏆 A year later, he won the 1972 European Cup Winners' Cup with Rangers at Camp Nou—the iconic "Barcelona Bears"—before scoring in the 1973 Scottish Cup final victory over Celtic in front of 122,000 fans.
🧳 When he moved south in 1974, he didn't even realise he was joining Spurs until landing in London.
🗣️ "I thought I was meeting Tommy Docherty to join Manchester United! Imagine my surprise when I heard Eddie Baily saying 'Welcome to Tottenham'."
👑 His full debut set the tone: a hat-trick in a 5-2 win away at Newcastle. Soon, fans inherited a banner from the Alan Gilzean era, declaring Conn the new King of White Hart Lane.
🏃 His defining Spurs moment came on the final day of the 1974/75 season. Needing a win against Leeds to avoid relegation, Spurs raced into a 3-0 lead.
⚽️ Then, Conn did the unthinkable: he sat on the ball to taunt Billy Bremner and Norman Hunter.
🗣️ "I don't know why I did it, but as soon as I saw big Pat Jennings shaking his head, I thought ‘What have I done?’" laughs Conn. Leeds pulled two back before Spurs sealed a 4-2 win.
🥵 Afterward, Conn popped his head into the Leeds dressing room: "Sorry lads!"—and ran for his life.
🦄 Despite playing just 49 games and scoring 10 goals before moving to Celtic in 1977—becoming the first post-war player to represent both Old Firm clubs—Alfie Conn remains a legendary North London figure.
💙 Now 74, Conn spends his time raising funds for MND charities following the loss of his wife, Sue. Though decades have passed, his place in Spurs folklore is permanent.
🗣️ "To this day, I still think of Tottenham as my club."

We've all been there.
You crimp off a shit and realise there's no bog paper left.
I won't accept that there's nothing I can do to help.
My government will add six more sheets to every roll of bog paper.
It's a small change, but it's a practical way to help people

Incredible how her voice sounds much better as she gets older. Excellent artist.
A brilliant graphic from @SteveSayersOne exposing the SNP’s breathtaking EU hypocrisy.
From campaigning AGAINST EEC membership in 1975 to claiming Scotland was dragged out of the EU against its will in 2016.
The irony?
Independence in 2014 would have taken Scotland out of the EU before any Brexit vote took place.
No, but I have an online ridiculous comment spotter, you just set it off.
Hi @premierinn - Next time I would like my room cleaned, preferably before I get there! This was Stafford Spitfire Room 225 this morning, where I also stood on a piece of broken glass on the carpet when I got out of bed, and also found human hair in the breakfast buffet!

Today, I’m swallowing my pride and asking for your help to save my restaurant.
Running a restaurant is more than a business to me. It’s my passion, my livelihood, and something I’ve worked incredibly hard to build.
We’re facing one of our hardest times. Right now, @Google is accepting only 1-star fake reviews, while genuine 5-star reviews from customers are not being accepted. You can try posting a 5-star review and see for yourself. This is seriously affecting our business. With outstanding rent and our landlord threatening court proceedings, the pressure is unbearable.
I never imagined making a post like this, but sometimes you have to set pride aside and ask for help. 🙏
Please book a table at Singh’s Dining. Come enjoy our food, experience our hospitality, and see what we’re all about.
We’re proud to be a non-Halal restaurant and want to keep serving our community for years to come.
If you can’t visit, please share this post with friends and family. Every booking, share, and bit of support means more than you can imagine.
❤️ Please help us keep Singh’s Dining open. ❤️
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has supported us. We need you now more than ever.
🙏 Please book. Please share. Please help us survive.

The claim of Google conspiring against him is unsupported & appears aimed at soliciting 5star reviews. No clear evidence of review bombing exists; there are just 18 reviews across ratings. The owner’s responses to genuine customer concerns may help explain its unpopularity.

Paul Merson bang on about the Man City cheating for 9yrs debacle @SkySportsNews
Any trophies won in that period are pointless, and that’s how City should end up
Any City player with integrity knows this too

Is anyone else starting to think that @andyburnham is just completely out of his depth….?!
Hi @ScotRail , why have my flexi passes disappeared from my app please? I bought twelve this week, used five now all have vanished…??!!
Absolutely right, and this is what @JohnSwinney comes up with more than a decade after the 2014 referendum…?! It’s laughable……..I would love to hear his response…!
This is economic illiteracy of a high order.
After separation Scotland would still use sterling. So it would have to borrow in £s to cover its massive budget deficit and promise lenders it would pay back in £s (or they won’t lend).
But after an unspecified transition it would move to a Scottish currency. But all the borrowing done during the transition would have to be paid back in sterling.
If the Scottish currency plummeted v sterling (likely given the size of the deficit, lack of credit track record etc) that could become an unmanageable burden given the likely poor exchange rate.
Scotland would have to borrow billions in its own currency just to convert to sterling to pay back lenders. Devaluing the Scottish currency further.
What a shambles that would be.
He has no idea what he’s talking about.

“You are not a burden.”
Four simple words from Pope Leo at Lourdes today, but in contemporary France they carry enormous moral weight. Only last month France enacted its new law establishing a right to aide à mourir. And today, surrounded by the sick, disabled, frail and suffering, Leo confronted the anthropology behind the euthanasia debate head-on. Human dignity, he said, “cannot be measured or debated”. We must reject causing death under the guise of “false compassion”. “What is legal is not necessarily moral.” And to doctors and nurses: Your vocation is “to care for a suffering person, not eliminate that person.” Then he turned directly to the sick: “You are not a burden. You are the beating heart of our humanity and a precious treasure for the Church.” That is the Catholic answer to the terrible fear which haunts so much of the assisted-dying debate: I am useless. I have lost my independence. My family has to care for me. I cost too much. Perhaps everyone would be better off if I were gone. No. Your value does not diminish because your body fails. Your dignity does not depend upon productivity, independence, cognitive ability, youth or health. You do not become less human because you need someone else to feed you, wash you, carry you or sit beside your bed. And compassion does not mean eliminating the person who suffers. It means refusing to abandon them in their suffering. That is why Leo's call for proper palliative care matters just as much as his condemnation of assisted death. Christianity's alternative is not: you must suffer it is: we will suffer with you. Perhaps nowhere could that message have been more powerfully delivered than Lourdes, where for generations the sick have not been hidden away as an embarrassment to human autonomy but brought quite literally to the centre of the Church. “You are not a burden.” France so needed to hear those words!!
Pope Leo XIV to the sick in Lourdes:
"Dear brothers and sisters who are sick, I want to tell you that you are not a burden. You are the beating heart of our humanity and a precious treasure for the Church. I carry in my prayers the trials you are going through. My thoughts are also with all those who cannot be here and who, from their homes or hospital rooms, are united with us in this gathering. I entrust all of you to the maternal love of the Mother of the Lord, asking her to obtain for you the consolations of her Son Jesus. May God bless and protect you."
