Today Pope Leo XIV addressed the vocations crisis with members of the Federation of Capuchin Poor Clare Nuns in Italy:
"It is precisely with the "mind in the mirror of eternity" that I invite you to look both at the present time, with its dramas and uncertainties, and at the challenges of your "little world", rich in its past and called to look to the future with hope.
The reduced number of vocations, in particular, could push some to choose closure or retreat. But I want to repeat to you what I said about the future of Dioceses and Seminaries in Italy. Let's try to change perspective in considering this reality. Its critical issues, in fact, can help us to discover or rediscover unexpected potential, "not so much with regard to numerical strength but to the quality of the proposal."
Today's Gospel reminds us of this, which says: "It is not the healthy who need a physician, but the sick" (Mt 9:12). The reduction in the number of communities – and the resulting fear of losing one's autonomy – must not disturb and take away hope, but rather push to a renewal of one's own life and to an even greater commitment to the spiritual accompaniment of those who knock at the doors of monasteries, to make joyful and living communities grow, in which to experience intimacy with God, affability, communion, authenticity of relationships.
Vocations are not born from the application of organizational strategies, nor from campaigns studied at the table, but from prayer, from familiarity with the Gospel, from silence, from knowing how to welcome oneself with one's own imperfections, from feeling part of a whole that creates unity. And to do so, the Lord does not ask us to be impeccable, but to allow ourselves to be shaped by His grace, humbly, day by day."

The Church needs to remove Rupnik’s artwork everywhere. For the sake of his victims.
This is Sister Samuelle, mosaic artist and alleged victim of Father Marko Rupnik, photographed when facing the then-partially covered mosaics on June 30, 2026 in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes.
@ASobocki accompanied Sister Samuelle at that moment:
“Sometimes you take a spontaneous photo which says so much more than a thousand safeguarding reports,” Sobocki said of the photo of Sister Samuelle facing massive mosaics on the wall of the basilica.
"This photo tells the Church what it's like to be a survivor. Sister Samuelle is so small and fragile compared to the great edifice of the church," she said, adding that "although the Church has great hierarchical power, it is Sister Samuelle who has the greatest moral authority. It is tragically true that it is possible to have great hierarchical power and yet possess no moral authority."
Sobocki added that "Sister Samuelle and the other survivors who have so courageously spoken out about Marko Rupnik don't just speak for themselves now, as important as that is. They have become emblematic of those who have suffered abuse anywhere."
"They are standard-bearers for those who suffer abuse and then suffer again when enduring the agony of attempting to convince others to listen to them," Sobocki told @OSVNews in a written response to questions.
As of Sept. 18, the mosaics by Father Rupnik are fully covered on the facade of the Basilica of Our Lady of Lourdes.

The new document (a “Note” signed by heads of three Vatican dicasteries) says: “Early Christianity developed from the movement initiated by Jesus and his disciples, distinguishing itself from the various forms of Judaism over time.” This is a false or at best a misleading statement.
Jesus and his disciples didn’t initiate a movement that distinguished itself from Judaism over time. That’s the Modern Liberal Protestant view of Albert Schweitzer and the early Modernists (Loisy) it’s condemned by Pius X in Lamebtabili (prop. 52) and in the Oath Against Modernism.
No, Jesus founded the Catholic Church on Peter (Mt 16:16-18), the new non-Levitical priesthood (Mt 26), new Sacraments (Mt 28:18), and a new Covenant in His blood (Lk 22:20) which fulfilled and concluded/abolished the old. Pius XII teaches this definitively in Mystici Corporis, a. 29.
And yes, its implementation was a process but that process was completed at Pentecost. Its completion did not occur at or after the destruction of the Temple in 70AD, as the Note seems to indicate!
Can someone explain to me what the Vatican is saying here. I understand the part of Rabbinic Judaism being a different religion to the temple religion practiced by Jesus and the disciples. I’m less clear of what they mean by “early Christianity developed from the movement initiated by Jesus and his disciples.” Seems like a very clumsy way of saying that God Incarnate founded the Church as the one true religion on Peter. I mean the Church was founded officially 50 days after the Resurrection and 10 days after Our Lord’s glorious Ascension into heaven, with the descent of the Holy Spirit. Is this the development “from the movement initiated by Jesus”, that they are talking about?

Two days after we posted our story @OSVNews , TV Aparecida removed the video - screenshot by me below - from their You Tube channel.
The video has shown a person resembling Father Marko Ivan Rupnik, and wearing "MIR" initials builder's hat, instructing a Redemtorist father on how to put last pieces of the mosaics on the western facade of Our Lady of Aparecida basilica in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The next person to finalize the mosaics in the video was retired archbishop of Aparecida.
While France's Lourdes shrine moves to cover mosaics by Father Marko Rupnik, Brazil's National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida in São Paulo celebrated new installations by the artist, who faces decades of allegations of sexual, spiritual and psychological abuse.
The celebration on Sept. 12 included music, prayers, biblical dramatizations and fireworks.
The installation, which surrounds the entire basilica, is credited to the Centro Aletti, the art studio founded by Father Rupnik, whose canonical trial is still under review by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
In this video, posted by TV Aparecida on Sept. 1, Redemptorist fathers who administer the shrine, place some last stones in the western - and last - facade, inaugurated Sept. 12.
As one of the prelates placed a stone at the beginning of this fragment of the video, a person standing next to him and giving instructions can be seen wearing a construction hat with the initials "MIR," and bearing a strong physical resemblance to Father (Marko) Rupnik, whose middle name is Ivan. We can't see his face, as he is hidden behind the friar.
@OSVNews' @jae_journalist reached out to the shrine's communications office Sept. 17 to confirm whether the person was Father Rupnik, since the initials matched his full name. The office was also asked what guided its decision to allow the priest to continue despite pleas from alleged victims and his ongoing canonical trial.

The Sept. 12 ceremony featured a blessings from retired Archbishop Orlando Brandes of Aparecida, who is also present in the video below, standing behind a person that may be Father Rupnik.

Pope Leo XIV at the Angelus this morning, tells the faithful not to forget the mistakes of World War 2:
"I send my blessing to the people of Pescantina, near Verona, who today gather around the Monumento agli Ex Internati, to remember those who were deported and prisoners during the Second World War. I do this to emphasize that we must not forget, but learn from history so as not to fall back into the mistakes of the past."
