Manipulating people emotionally or through deliberately misleading statistical argument is shameful no matter the cause or issue. It tells you right away how comfortable they are with manipulation and dishonesty, which will almost certainly get worse the more it enriches them or serves their purposes.

Depends on what the start risk was. If it was already 5-10% a 46% increase is astronomical. If it was 0.001%, a 46% increase is still effectively never. To be deliberately alarming is exactly why it is communicated as percent increase instead of absolute risk. It is manipulation not education, and I don’t even care about cannabis that much.

Every fall I’m amazed to see all-walks-of-life college football fans make usually well intentioned often statistically reasonable arguments for fun, while two posts down political orgs use deliberately misleading numbers to make their case for profit, power, and intimidation.

Back in California. The bone dry desert night breeze was very welcome after a week of near constant sweat. Those old school folks with 14 layer dresses or a 1/4” thick wool suit with a top hat were legit.

Positive kratom research deserves coverage, too. A peer-reviewed, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study published in Drug Testing and Analysis provides encouraging findings about traditional kratom leaf. The trial included 116 healthy adults, with 49 receiving kratom and 67 receiving placebo. Researchers tested 0.5–4 grams of dried leaf powder, containing 6.65–53.2 mg of mitragynine, including 15 consecutive daily doses. The findings: ✅ No participants reached the study’s threshold for clinically meaningful opioid withdrawal. ✅ No serious adverse events or deaths were reported. ✅ Abuse-related adverse events were generally mild and resolved without lasting consequences. ✅ Subjective effects were modest overall, and decreased with repeated dosing. Statistically significant increases over placebo occurred only at the highest single dose. Those results deserve a place in the public conversation. The boundaries also matter: this was a short-term study of standardized leaf powder in healthy adults. It does not prove that every product, dose, or pattern of use is safe, or that dependence cannot occur. It does not establish safety for manufactured 7-OH products. As a kratom manufacturer, I welcome scrutiny. I also want reporting that gives controlled human research the attention it deserves and clearly identifies the products being discussed. To the journalists, editors, and medical commentators covering this issue: please examine this study, interview its authors, and explain its findings alongside its limitations. Public health benefits when the full evidence reaches the public. Natural kratom leaf is dominated by mitragynine, not concentrated 7-OH. Chemically manipulated isolates and synthetic compounds (Pseudoindoxyl, MGM 15/16) cannot be allowed to hide behind the kratom leaf name. Keep the line clear.

The war on kratom is about three things: 1. Getting 30 million consumers on the highly addictive opioid Suboxone 2. Securing opioid settlement funds to get another 30 million on the highly addictive opioid Suboxone. 3. Lawsuits
🚨 Chairman @ChuckGrassley, @SenMikeLee and @SenatorCollins are calling on the Trump administration to protect American families from deadly kratom and semi-synthetic substances like 7-OH. Federal scheduling would keep these addictive drugs off gas station shelves and out of the hands of our nation's children.

So let me get this straight, Suboxone isn't substituting one drug for another when it literally is the very definition. Suboxone, even when misusing it, diverting it, shooting it up, putting it in their eyeballs or tush is still active recovery, and Kratom IS substituting one drug for another, and even when thousands tell you they take a small amount a few times a day, and it saved their lives, it's active addiction? Do you people hear yourselves? Sure thing, keep blaming the Sacklers while Indivior is doing much worse and you celebrate it. You can give Suboxone for free with the daily newspaper and many people will still not want it. Not for pain, not for "addiction." Why is that? Why don't you ask the people who don't want it? Oh, right, you don't care about what they have to say about it.

The most recent study funded by FDA: The FDA-funded single ascending dose (SAD) pilot study evaluated oral doses of botanical kratom leaf powder (1 g to 12 g) in healthy human participants and found it was generally well-tolerated with no serious adverse events. Post that.. if it was “deadly”. Would FDA give it to humans? Especially at that high of dose? pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/4183…

Pay attention to what’s happening with kratom It starts with a sensational headline, then comes the carefully selected horror stories and the so-called addiction experts to tell the public what they should fear. It’s the same playbook they used in the manufactured OxyContin epidemic. Right, @drdrew? The scumbags create fear first, then they use that fear to justify bans. The war on kratom is being brought to you by Suboxone manufacturers, so-called “addiction experts,” lawyers, and others clamoring for their piece of the billions in opioid settlement money. And at the center of it all is Andrew Kolodny of @supportprop

Today feral cat Patrolman Toby became Sgt. Toby. A relative left the door open and the indoor Cake got outside. Toby ran to me meowing and didn’t stop until I followed him to the open door. Cake was quickly lured back & received probation. Cake referred to Toby as a “snitch.”

At sentencing Toby addressed the court with “at least I still have my balls you fat doughboy.” He was rewarded with a can of the good stuff along with a bump in rank.

Centuries of traditional kratom use matter. But fresh leaf, filtered tea, dried powder, extracts and chemically altered derivatives are not necessarily the same exposure. Traditional use is evidence. It just isn’t a safety study for everything we in the western market now call “kratom.” Good policy starts by recognizing those differences. You cannot honestly assess risk if you keep pretending everything with a kratom connection is the same product. medium.com/@DrewTurnerMedia/…
