It's 2023, 109 years after WW1 started, yet the pre-WW1 imperial borders are still visible on the election map of Poland - and on many others, for that matter. A thread 🧵🧵🧵-->

Have you already watched @radexp’s talk from #RNEU2023? @Nozbe’s CTO talked about Hermes and how its pieces — bytecode, interpreter, hidden classes, and more — all fit together to run a React Native app. Check out our playlist for more talks: bit.ly/45i83wV

Hermes is hiring! We are looking for a C++ engineer in the US, West Coast timezone, to work on the Hermes runtime: standard JS library, runtime internals, garbage collector, etc. No prior experience in language runtimes is needed. Expert level C++ is also not needed, but good understanding of C and system APIs is a plus.

Here's how to build an offline-first React Native app using Expo, WatermelonDN, and Supabase. I'm more and more convinced that "offline-first" is the best way to build for most apps. 🧵

Very exciting news in the React Native world: statically compiled JavaScript using Static Hermes! @tmikov is presenting on it at @react_native_eu. This means you can selectively use JavaScript (instead of C++) with Flow or TypeScript to write your cross-platform native code accompanying your React Native JS code. #reactnativeeu

I had a few troubles with internet today, so here's a quick recap of day 2 of @react_native_eu and how awesome it's been so far! First off, the day started with some really in depth and insightful talks about js engines and the Hermes engine, by @radexp and @tmikov ⚙️⚡️

Another open source package from @nozbe dev team with @radexp leadership. We’re not only building a useful piece of software, we’re also making parts of it useful. This fuzzy search module helps our users find their tasks and projects in Nozbe - it’s glorious and fast!
✨ I wrote a JS fuzzy search library. If you'd like a fuzzy, power user-friendly Search / Jump To / autocomplete / VSCode-like Command Palette, with highlighting, reasonable ranking, and good perf, it's for you! Let me know if you'd like to see it open sourced 😊

JavaScript engines may seem like black magic but they really aren't – and @radexp is going to prove you that! @nozbe’s CTO will demystify Hermes, and explain to you how its pieces all fit together to run your React Native app. Sounds like your cup of tea?

Babe wake up, new anti-remote work propaganda just dropped. "Though back-to-office mandates are unpopular for many reasons, addiction experts note that resistance consistently comes from millions of addicted employees." bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

I try hard to work on problems I care about, to do work that I enjoy. I suspect that there is a strong correlation between how much success I have and how much fun I have. I had great fun with @pshufb, @geofflangdale, @yagiznizipli, @FUZxxl
my contrarian opinion is that doing things you don't want to do is incredibly bad for you. all the advice that says to grind is bullshit you just end up teaching yourself that you don't value your intrinsic motivations, and over time those vanish, leaving you empty

Big fan of Not Invented Here personally. Yeah I know your thing exists. I can often still build it myself faster than I can communicate how your thing isn't what I want. And then you're welcome to copy me if you think what I did is good It's Open Source working well imo

Good graphic here. Nuclear actually provided almost 30% of total energy needs in the 90s in Germany; has now been reduced to zero. If that share were maintained, you could basically eliminate coal today.

@astexplorer has a built in mode for creating simple lint rules, and it’s so good. You can literally write a rule in your browser without even opening your editor.
