It’s disappointing to see people choose mocking over understanding. Education and kindness take effort; mocking others takes none. A reminder of why empathy, respect and education matters now more than ever.

Several players have flu-like symptoms ahead of their biggest World Cup match ever. While teams obscure the truth around sickness due to gamesmanship, it's surprising that more high performance athletes don't take simple precautions like wearing a mask. goal.com/en/lists/norway-squ…

The Swiss Re Institute suggests COVID will kill about 150,000 Americans this year (excess deaths), so it's more like a bad cancer than a bad flu. I would suggest talking to scientists who do Covid research and continue to take it seriously. My wife and I lead separate PhD programs. We homeschool so that our children do not experience the brain damage and other health problems from reinfections, which continue to pose a serious burden in 2026. It remains the most common chronic health condition in kids. A key reason why it might appear "milder" is that about 2 million Americans have died from COVlD (excess deaths). Wipe out 2 million people most vulnerable to any health problem, it will almost always appear acutely milder.

Funny how I don’t remember any jokes about 9/11 first responders, @jonstewart. Just years of consistent, heartfelt education and advocacy. And yet you’ve chosen to punch down on a group of vulnerable people with miserable quality of lives who really need your help. Sad and gross.
TW: Jon Stewart recently joked about hantavirus coverage and said: “this virus can cause Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, mostly amongst the experts who have to repeatedly answer the same questions.”

Past Andes virus outbreaks show that virions can be aerosolized by speech. Saying “hello” within 1–2 meters without physical contact was enough for human-to-human spread. For human-transmissible viruses, speech-range aerosol spread should be seen as the norm, not the exception.

Importantly, detailed investigations into this Andes Virus outbreak in Argentina in 2018 clearly revealed that multiple transmissions had taken place WITHOUT CLOSE CONTACT. The table below summarises the circumstances of these transmissions ⬇️

Not going well at work recently. Too many people sick. Shit doesn't get done means falling behind competitors even further. The "German Idea" of mistaking Covid for "remote work doesn't work" is slowly becoming the explanation and I guess my remote job will be gone next year.

Tons of users on FitBit forums and Reddit asking about their resting heart rate going up sharply in October for "no reason" stating that "this has never happened to me before." Plenty saying it was post-COVID, plenty saying "I was sick but it wasn't COVID." Yeah, it's COVID.
