Over 1 million people have joined Mastodon since October 27. Between that and those who returned to their old accounts, the number of active users has risen to over 1.6 million today, which, for context, is over 3 times what it was just about two weeks ago!
Like was it really the new stupid verification scheme that caused people to do this? It at least seems plausible. But tricky to test ex-post.

It’s wonderful - not a Twitter replicant though but a better way to do social media. Pick any server - but maybe start with the biggest one: mastodon.social
Den flodvåg av nya människor på Mastadon kräver utbyggnad och uppgraderingar av server admins runtom i världen. Det tar några dagar att hinna ikapp. Och om du inte är nöjd med en server så är det bara att byta till en som är piggare
Great work @timothyjgraham
Anecdotally, I didn't believe @elonmusk's claim about a decline in hate speech on this platform, so I ran a large-scale data analysis.
As this graph shows, there is no evidence of a decline in tweets containing hate speech terms* over the past fortnight.
