The most meaningful way to start getting to know people is not to ask where they're from or what they do. It’s to show an interest in how they became who they are. "What's a defining moment that shaped your identity?" We reveal ourselves in the stories we tell about our pasts.

If we want to see a more peaceful world, we have to learn to collaborate. Young people shouldn’t follow previous patterns of behaviour. New conditions, like our interdependent, globalised world, require new ideas. Dividing people into ‘us’ and ‘them’ is out of date.

At some point, we all begin to slow down. Most runners achieve peak performance between the ages of 20 and 40, after which aging begins to take its toll. Nevertheless, if you run and maintain a healthy lifestyle, you will look and feel a lot better than those who do not.

Not every opinion needs to be voiced. Not every emotion needs to be expressed. A key question: does what you're about to share align with your values? It's good to be true to your thoughts and feelings in the moment. It's better to be true to your guiding principles in life.

Each day our words must be manifested in our behavior. Anything short of that, and we are living a lie.
