Yesterday I joined Kieran Gilbert on @SkyNewsAust to talk about the Bondi condolence motion in Federal Parliament. A moment that should have been about unity decency and respect for the victims and their families. Instead it managed to deliver an early contender for the dumbest, stupidest and most idiotic parliamentary contribution of the year. Possibly the decade. And not surprisingly it was from The Australian Greens, whose MPs attempted to outdo each other for the most inappropriate, insensitive statements. Have a watch. #auspol

Statement of the Green Party of Ukraine  The Green Party of Ukraine (GPU) expresses its deep disappointment with recent statements by newly elected Australian Greens leader Senator David Shoebridge regarding the refusal to provide military assistance to Ukraine. We sincerely thank the Australian Greens for supporting humanitarian missions and calling for a complete embargo on Russian oil. At the same time, we emphasise that refusing to provide defensive weapons to a country waging a just war of liberation is a dangerous illusion that plays into the hands of the aggressor, Vladimir Putin. The Green Party of Ukraine emphasises: Dogmatic pacifism kills. As part of the global environmental movement, we share a commitment to peace. However, pacifism in the face of a ruthless invader does not stop war — it leads to occupation and the destruction of an entire nation. Ukraine is exercising its legitimate right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter. The absurdity of a “UN veto”. Senator Shoebridge’s demand that arms supplies be authorised through the UN Security Council, where Russia holds the power of veto, is detached from reality. It is equivalent to asking a criminal for permission to call the police. Russia’s war is causing massive ecocide. Russian forces deliberately destroy dams, mine millions of hectares of Ukraine’s fertile black soil, burn unique nature reserves and poison Europe’s water resources. Environmental protection is impossible without protecting the people who live in that environment. The only way to stop this ecological catastrophe is to stop the Russian army by force. Unity among the global Greens. Green parties across Europe have long recognised this threat. They are at the forefront of political forces demanding maximum military assistance for Ukraine. We call on our Australian colleagues to follow the example of their European Green counterparts. The Green Party of Ukraine welcomes the position taken by Australian Senator Sarah Hanson-Young Senator Sarah Hanson-Young and those members of the Australian Greens who have publicly spoken out in defence of Ukraine. We call on David Shoebridge to reconsider his position, listen to the voices of Ukrainian environmentalists and support the provision of defensive weapons to Ukraine. Only victory over the aggressor can restore lasting peace and security to the European continent. greenparty.ua/patsyfizm-ne-z…

Over 120 former Israeli ambassadors and senior Foreign Service officials condemn in the strongest possible terms the continuation of the acts of Jewish terrorism in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank). The escalation of the ongoing harm to both Palestinians and non-Palestinians documenting the rampage, is a criminal act targeting innocent individuals and communities and constitutes a moral stain that will not easily be erased. It is causing unacceptable damage to Israel's foreign relations and international image—not to mention the loss of governance unfolding before our very eyes. The injuring of the Washington Post photographer who was brutally attacked by Jewish terrorists yesterday and today's assault on foreign diplomats, mark a new low in the crimes being committed without an adequate response from the government and security forces. These abhorrent and indefensible outrages are not Israel's way, are a profound betrayal of core Jewish values, are an unconscionable affront to basic human principles and dignity and are fundamentally inconsistent with the behavior of an enlightened country. This is nothing less than a deliberate assault on Israel’s political standing and its public diplomacy and poses a direct and significant threat to its national security. The former diplomats send their warmest wishes of support and encouragement to Heidi Levine, alongside a renewed call to the government to act without delay to eradicate these disgraceful acts of violence.

What a brilliant achievement by @kmitsotakis and his Government. Lots more work to do - but it starts with healthy economics.
Greece’s public debt will fall to 136% of GDP in 2026 from 146.6% in 2025, before declining further to 128.7% in 2027 and 111.1% in 2031, according to forecasts released by the IMF. By 2031, #Greece is expected to have a lower debt ratio than France and Belgium.

I am incredibly disappointed in Obama's revision of the history of Israel. There was, in fact, no grabbing of "Palestinian land." Such ignorance stings because I'm a fan of the former president, and he is smart enough to know better. jpost.com/international/arti…

Shoebridge is now one news cycle away from ending his career. Six children were killed in Ukraine last weekend, his policy is to oppose sending a single Australian weapon to shoot down the drones that are killing them.

The opening paragraph of this @WSJ editorial does not miss. It is bang on 🎯 "It’s possible that the Nobel Committee will someday bestow its peace prize on a less worthy recipient than Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, but we doubt it. The Oslo worthies this year have honored an 85-year-old South African whose career has been marked above all by hatred for Israel and the Jews who support it." wsj.com/opinion/navi-pillay-…

Watch: The Riyadh airport terror massacre in Saudi Arabia, committed by the treacherous and murderous slave-owning, child-soldier-recruiting, pedophilia-normalizing, Ayatollah-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels, is a new chapter in this group’s crimes against Arab and Muslim peoples of the Middle East. The missile strike against the King Khalid International Airport claimed the lives of over 12 innocent people and injured more than 300 from dozens of nationalities. One of those killed was a Palestinian man from the Gaza Strip, Talal Al-Dani, and many of the casualties were pilgrims headed to Mecca, the holiest site for Muslims. This massacre was carried out by the same Houthis whose slogan includes “curse upon the Jews” and who launched hundreds of projectiles and missiles toward Israel to supposedly “support” the people of Gaza. These are the same Houthis that low-information “pro-Palestine” activists in the Western world have been chanting for, demanding that the group maintain its acts of piracy and aggression against international shipping in the Red Sea to “help Gaza.” Remember the embarrassing slogan: “Yemen, Yemen, make us proud, turn another ship around”? When I spoke time and again against this despicable group, I was viciously attacked for decrying the only entity that was supposedly “standing up for the Palestinian people.” Putting aside the complex geopolitics of the Middle East, it doesn’t take rocket science to register the depravity and grave disregard for human decency by the sectarian and violent Houthi or “Ansar Allah” rebels. The embarrassing anti-Israel movement would do well to immediately shift course and stop championing and supporting murderous pedophiles just because this group hates Israel and Jews.

South Melbourne FC can confirm that Sinisa Cohadzic has stepped down as Senior Head Coach ahead of the Australian Championship. Sinisa has made a significant contribution to South Melbourne both on and off the field over a number of years, playing an important role in one of the club’s most successful recent periods. His time as Senior Head Coach culminated in one of the greatest nights in South Melbourne’s history on Saturday, guiding Hellas to the Australia Cup title with a penalty shootout victory over Melbourne Victory in the final at AAMI Park. It was a triumph that meant far more than silverware. For generations of South Melbourne supporters, it marked a historic return to the biggest stage in Australian football and a moment of celebration for the entire Hellas community. Sinisa’s role in delivering that achievement will forever be part of our club’s story. FULL STATEMENT smfc.com.au/2026/10/12/sinis…

I participated in the anti-Vietnam War and anti-conscription movement of the late 60s and early 70s. I opposed Australian and US involvement in the war but did not support the Communist leadership of the Vietnamese resistance because they were clearly going to institute a one-party state. I was critical of my own government but did not support its violent overthrow. Some in the movement however did support the Communists and did support the violent overthrow of capitalism and, especially in the US, this took the form of the terrorist organisation -the Weather Underground - that carried out numerous bombings. I am worried that history is about to repeat itself, only more dangerously this time. While I support the call for peace in the Middle East and am critical of the policies of both Trump and Netanyahu, there is a line that I think the pro-Palestine movement must not cross but are in great danger of doing so. The calls for the destruction of Israel, the glorification of the authoritarian, terrorist, Islamist groups Hamas, the blanket condemnation of “Zionism” and calls to “globalise the intifada” (both of which imply that any Jew around the world who supports the state of Israel is a target) all buy into a narrative that fails to notice when red lines get crossed. I greatly fear we will see the emergence of home-grown terrorism in the coming period from a small minority who have bought this narrative and crossed the red line into violence.
