I am so disappointed for Alan and so very disappointed in @OxUniPress for how they have treated Alan, his readers, and lovers of all things Dorothy Sayers. This biography of DS 1/2

In a sacramental understanding of reality time becomes sacred, everything oscillating around Christ and his cosmos. Congratulations to Michael Niebauer on his new book on the Lectionary with @readbakerbooks. Look for an interview @CredoMagazine

The greatest challenge of Christian formation isn't the mind. It's the heart.
I explore this in "Hearts and Minds: The Challenge of Formation" — Part 2 of my series, A School for Prayer, on the theology of the Prayer Book.

My new book on the Lectionary is out today (link👇)! Thank you to @hains_todd from @ReadBakerBooks for helping to get the book off the ground. I'm hoping it will be a great resource for anyone who attends a church that uses a lectionary...

Theology is best formed through prayer, deep study, and table fellowship around a common rule of life. Credo is proud to partner with @TheAnselmHouse in cultivating virtue and understanding.
Anselm House is forming thoughtful ministers and theologians for faithful service in the Church. Fellows also have the opportunity to earn credit through @TASeminary. Consider applying today.

I think I have settled on my pedagogical goal for this class: I want us to encounter the gravitas of questions and texts so fundamental to our humanity that any claim to “expertise” falls away before them, allowing us to become friends who simply inquire together.
[This description should elicit all manner of jokes. I have already thought of several!]
This is still coming into form, but the current lineup is:
Plato - Phaedo, Phaedrus, Timaeus
Augustine - Confessions, On the Trinity
Shakespeare - Sonnets, Hamlet, The Tempest
Coleridge and Wordsworth - Excerpts from both prose and poetry
Burke - Reflections on the Revolution in France + Marx, The Communist Manifesto
Hannah Arendt - Between Past and Future or The Human Condition (trying to decide if I can throw the latter at 'em!)
Emerson - Selected Essays (all of 'em)
Eliot - Wasteland/Four Quartets/Tradition and the Individual Talent/The Literature of Politics
Kierkegaard - Concept of Anxiety (I might combine this with Sartre's No Exit)
That should be a respectable class, right?

What does it mean to seek a good name—not for our own glory, but for the glory of God?
This question was at the heart of Dr. Matthew Lee Anderson's keynote at the inaugural Anglican Formation Network Summer Conference, where students, pastors, scholars, and ministry leaders gathered at Trinity to explore catechesis and the future of Anglican formation.

We live, as philosopher Josef Pieper put it, in a world of “total work.” ...the modern world makes work our identity...we are what we achieve and produce. -@pgutacker

If you want your post-college “bridge years” to be fruitful and not just anxiety-ridden, or if you’re walking alongside a new graduate, you need to return to what Scripture teaches about vocation.

This was a really enjoyable discussion with author @pgutacker and the guys at Mere Fidelity @DZRishmawy @zugzwanged talking about American slavery, religion, and the difficulties of reducing human belief to ideology independent of contextual social, political, and economic formation, as well as the problems with trying to compare causation.

Would you do me a favor and share with someone about Brazos Fellows today?
We'd love to connect with anyone—a senior, a recent grad, someone at a crossroads—who'd consider joining a community committed to a common Rule of Life.
