Permanent Secretary Mr. @AlexKakooza_ yesterday engaged with representatives from UN agencies, led by the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr @1ZuluLeonard, district local government leaders, and refugees on Durable Solutions for Refugees at a UN facility in Mbuya, Kampala.
Durable Solutions for Refugees is one of the five pledges that @GovUganda made at the 2023 Global Refugee Forum. Mr. Kakooza called for stronger multi-stakeholder collaboration and urged stakeholders to turn plans into action to drive progress on this pledge.

Today, I received two members of the European Parliament, Hon. Anna Strolenberg and Hon. Tineke Strik, together with their colleagues, at Parliament. They are in Uganda to better understand our refugee policies and explore how the EU and Uganda can strengthen cooperation on refugee and immigration management.
Hon. Robina Rwakoojo, Hon. Beatrice Rwakimari and officials from the Refugees Department in the Office of the Prime Minister also joined us in the meeting.
I informed them that Uganda’s doors are always open to refugees because of our commitment to humanity and our culture of never turning anyone away. Uganda now hosts more than 2 million refugees, the majority of whom are women and children who are vulnerable.
I explained to them that cuts in funding have made refugee management difficult for us. For instance, this year, Uganda received about 12% of more than USD 850 million needed to support the welfare of refugees. When there is less money to provide food and other essential support to refugees, there is increased pressure on social services such as health and education. I told them that this is the best time for Uganda and the EU to strengthen our cooperation on this issue.
I further explained that the root causes of refugee movements are conflicts in neighbouring countries. The EU has an important role to play in supporting efforts to resolve the conflicts that continue to cause refugee influxes.
Both Hon. Anna Strolenberg and Hon. Tineke Strik appreciated the exemplary example Uganda has set in welcoming and hosting refugees. We look forward to stronger cooperation on refugee management.
@Parliament_Ug highly values its strong relationship with @EUparliament especially under the EU-OACPS Joint Parliamentary Assembly.

Thank you Rt. Hon.@Thomas_Tayebwa for honouring us with your presence. Your inspiring remarks and unwavering commitment to strengthening Parliament's role in advancing refugee protection and sustainable development have greatly enriched our discussions.
I opened the Capacity-Building Workshop for Members of the Parliamentary Forum on Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons at Sheraton Kampala Hotel this morning.
As Africa's largest refugee-hosting country, we are proud of our unwavering commitment to protecting people fleeing conflict and persecution.
Uganda's open-door refugee policy is a source of national pride. Even as global humanitarian funding declines, our commitment to offering safety, protection and dignity to those forced to flee remains steadfast. At the same time, we call upon the international community to continue supporting and partnering with us.
At Parliament, our primary responsibility is legislation. I encouraged Members of Parliament to strengthen legislative oversight, ensure accountability in the use of resources allocated to refugees and support policies that promote peaceful coexistence between refugees and host communities. We must also ensure that refugee-hosting districts receive the support they need to sustain essential services and drive development.
I thank @OPMUganda , the Parliamentary Forum on Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons and all stakeholders for organising this important engagement. Together, we will continue working towards sustainable refugee responses that benefit both refugees and host communities.

I joined Hon. Oboth Oboth Marksons Jacob at his residence in Kyungu, Mukono, together with friends, leaders, and well-wishers to celebrate his remarkable election victory in just the concluded elections and continued service to his people.
The celebration was not only a moment of thanksgiving, but also a reflection of the confidence and trust Ugandans have in his leadership, humility, and commitment to national development.
I congratulate him once again upon this milestone and wish him God’s guidance and wisdom as he continues serving our country and its people.@mkainerugaba @KagutaMuseveni

A powerful day of learning and action! CAPAIDS Uganda is proud to have today joined Jesuit Refugee Services Uganda in partnership with Lutheran World Federation for a vital workshop on the Eradication of Statelessness.
We’ve been sharpening our advocacy tools and diving deep into the legal instruments that protect the vulnerable:
✅ 1954 Convention (Rights & Status)
✅ 1961 Convention (Prevention & Reduction)
✅ AU Protocol (Africa’s path to ending statelessness)
Movement-building is at the heart of what we do. By strengthening our networks and knowledge, we’re one step closer to a world where everyone belongs.
