Did you know; only 1.2% of humanitarian funding reached local actors directly in 2022? Meanwhile, 46 refugee-led organizations applied to our call for proposals in 15 days. Read @LMbokaniJerry's reflection paper on the real gaps: relonuganda.org/blog-details… #Localization #RLOsLead

The UN Human Rights Council adopted Resolution 47/5 on 12 July 2021, addressing every girl’s equal right to education. It calls 4 action against barriers such as violence, child marriage, early pregnancy & poverty, including 4 refugee girls. Thanks 2 @relonuganda for the action.

Happy Independence Day, Uganda! 🇺🇬 For decades, refugees have found safety here; built communities, started businesses, raised families, shared their skills and contributed to the country they now call home. #UgandaAt64 | #IndependenceDay | #RefugeeMeaningfulParticipation

In Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, adults are returning to the classroom to strengthen their English literacy and communication skills, opening up new opportunities to participate, connect and navigate everyday life with greater confidence. Through our English for Adults Programme, Windle International Uganda is supporting 433 Sudanese refugees at Bidong and Ematong Learning Centres. And the goal goes beyond learning English. It is about helping people communicate, integrate, access employment opportunities and pursue livelihoods and businesses. Because when people can communicate with confidence, more doors can open. #WindleInternationalUganda #EnglishForAdults #Kiryandongo #EducationForAll @UNHCRuganda @Andrewomara2022

Refugees deserve a voice in the decisions that shape their lives. At #UNGA, our Goodwill Ambassador Gugu Mbatha-Raw helped bring the stories and perspectives of refugees into the conversation. Because their experiences matter. Their voices deserved to be heard.

Today, we were honoured to join the @1Youth1Heart Initiative at the launch of “Thrive Together” (Maman na Mwana) a powerful call to action for communities to stand together for every child. This inspiring program places empowered mothers at the heart of change, recognizing their vital role in protecting children, strengthening families, and shaping a brighter future. It also champions the rights, dignity, and potential of the girl child while building communities where everyone feels seen, valued, and included. Because every child deserves to grow up safe, loved, supported, and free to thrive. The launch was filled with hope and purpose, from moving testimonies by OYOH participants and thoughtful community reflections to the joyful energy of children’s dances. Each moment reminded us that lasting change begins when people come together and take action. When mothers are empowered, children are protected. When communities unite, inclusion becomes possible. Together, we can create a future where every child is safe, every family is strengthened, and every child has the opportunity to thrive.#ThriveTogether

What if the most important humanitarian intervention isn’t funding projects but funding evidence? Today’s “Measuring What Matters” learning and reflection event with Innovations for @poverty_action Reinforced a powerful lesson: evidence turns good intentions into measurable impact. In a sector facing urgent needs and limited resources, organizations must be able to show what works, learn from what doesn’t, and remain accountable to the communities they serve. Inspired by the @hiltonfound Foundation investment in learning, evidence, and meaningful refugee inclusion, and by Innovations for Poverty Action work strengthening MEL systems and supporting Refugee-Led Organizations to generate credible community-driven evidence. When refugees and local organizations lead the learning, localization becomes more than a principle , it becomes practice. Kudos to @relonuganda @ayan_africa @YARIDUganda @LcaUganda and others
