Couldn’t agree more. The (sometimes) ‘cult-like’ reverence of PhD in academic circles also drives incredibly talented people out of non-faculty uni jobs because they feel they don’t belong. A little humility goes a long way.
Some of the most brilliant, bold & incredibly smart colleagues I work with do not have PhDs. Having a Phd does not automatically mean 1) that you you’re an expert at it all 2) that you have the most innovative ideas or 3) that you should be the loudest voice in the room.

The UCL/GOT biomarkers course with a line up of GOATs in the field! If you’ve never attended, this is 100% worth it. Wish I could be a graduate student just so I could attend again...
This year’s “UCL/UGOT Biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases” course is probably the best we have ever offered, very much looking forward to meeting all the delegates and speakers in person in London very soon! @UCLIoN @drcionucl @goteborgsuni @tautangles @aitanasogorb

Two years, a transition to industry and a pandemic later, I am delighted to share our investigation of plasma biomarkers in @prevent_ad! A great collab with the world’s best initiated with our friends @_michael_scholl @NicholasAshton and @sylv_villeneuve’s lab @mcgillu !
Published in @ANA_journals! Blood #pTau231 has robust associations with #Aβ and #tau PET in preclinical #Alzheimers. Plasma #pTau231 + plasma #Aβ detected early #cognitive #decline 📉 @pf_meyer @sylv_villeneuve @prevent_ad @goteborgsuni + many others 🩸🧠 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3508…

If you haven’t yet, you should apply. Both Nico and Rik are amazing scientists and great humans. The type of environment you should look for when PhD hunting!
⚡️ Job alert #1: @nfranzme and I are looking for a motivated #PhD student to work on protein progression modelling using human #neuroimaging data. This is a 4-year shared position between @AlzheimerAms (Amsterdam) and @ISDneuroimaging (Munich). Apply here: bit.ly/3IwZpAt

Hey @lyonaeroports, comment justifiez vous ce genre de pratiques? Empaqueter les gens sans possibilité de distanciation sociale. @MinSoliSante il y a des sanctions prévues pour des négligences aussi affligeantes?

FYI, you’re meant to review the science not the author list.
Submitted a paper to a @SpringerNature journal and was shocked with one of the reviewers' comments. Apparently, scientists outside the West are incapable of conducting competitive research on their own— we need Western scientists to hold our hand @AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter

So starts the Age of Blood in Alzheimer’s Disease.
A new biomarker, plasma phospho-tau217, will likely transform diagnosis of #alzheimer’sdisease. It more accurately distinguishes AD from controls and other diseases than do other biomarkers. ow.ly/rb1350ALwOv
